Your Gmail signature is an important piece of information that tells your email recipients a little more about you. When your contact information changes, you’ll want to change the signature in Gmail, too. While you’re there, you can also give it a modern look and a professional design.

Your Gmail signature doesn’t follow you from device to device. When you update your signature from your computer, only messages you send from Gmail on the web show the updated information. If you use an Android, iPhone, or iPad, you’ll need to update your Gmail signature from those devices.

Find Your Gmail Signature on Your Computer

When you’re ready to update your contact information, edit your existing Gmail signature.

Here’s where you’ll find your Gmail signature when you’re working in Gmail on the web:

  1. Open your preferred web browser, then go to Gmail and sign in to your Google account.
  2. Select Settings > Settings.
  3. Select the General tab and scroll down to the Signature section.
  4. Update your signature with your new information.
  5. When you're finished, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save Changes.

Change the Look of Your Gmail Signature

There are many ways to change your Gmail signature's appearance, edit the text to update your contact information, or create a fresh look for yourself with text formatting and appropriate images. You'll find everything you need in the Formatting toolbar above the signature.

Here are a few ways you can change the look of your Gmail signature:

  • Change the text formatting: Select the text, then change the Font and Size. Or add Bold, Italic, Underline, or Text Color to the selected text.
  • Link to your website: Select the text, then select Link. Type the URL of the website in the To what URL should this link go? textbox and select OK.
  • Add your profile picture or logo: Place the cursor where you want to place the image and select Insert Image.

Note: If you choose a photo that’s stored on Google Drive, you'll need to share the Google Drive file publicly for it to appear in the signature.

When you’re done making changes, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save Changes.

Troubleshooting: Can’t Add Text Formatting

If you can’t add text formatting to your signature, you may be working in plain text mode. To turn off plain text:

  1. Select Compose to open a new message.
  2. Select More options.
  3. Remove the check next to Plain text mode.

Changing the Signature When You Have Multiple Accounts

If you have multiple Gmail email addresses, or if you use the Send mail as feature, you’ll need to give each email address a different signature. To change the signature for a different account, choose it from the drop-down list above the signature.

Change Your Gmail Signature on an Android Device

As stated before, the Gmail signature you set up for Gmail on the web is separate from the signature in the Gmail app for Android.

Here’s how to change your Gmail signature from your Android phone or tablet:

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings.
  3. Choose the Google account you want to change.
  4. Tap Mobile Signature.
  5. Edit the text to make your changes. To put text on multiple lines, press Enter at the end of a line.
  6. When you’re finished making changes, tap OK.

Change Your Gmail Signature on an iPhone or iPad

Like Android, the Gmail signature you use on your iPhone and iPad is different than the signature used in Gmail on the web.

Here’s how to change your Gmail signature from your iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings.
  3. Choose the Google account you want to change.
  4. Tap Signature settings.
  5. Turn on the Signature setting.
  6. Make your changes.
  7. Tap Back to save your changes.
