Can You AirPlay to Fire Stick?

Apple AirPlay is a handy feature that lets you stream from your iPhone or iPad to another device. Unfortunately, you cannot AirPlay content to a Fire Stick.

That doesn't mean you can't work around the issue, however. Instead of using AirPlay to connect directly to Fire Stick, you can use a third-party app to connect the two technologies so you can mirror your iPhone or iPad screen to your Fire Stick device for viewing on a larger TV or computer screen.

Can You Screen Mirror iPhone to Fire Stick?

You cannot mirror your iPhone directly to Fire Stick, but you can add an app to Fire Stick that will act as an intermediary between the two devices. For example, however, you can sideload an app like Kodi to your Fire Stick, allowing you to mirror your iPhone or iPad screen to your Fire Stick. Sideloading means adding an app that isn't in the Amazon store to your Fire Stick. It would be best if you only sideloaded apps from trusted developers.

If you prefer not to go that route, you can install an app like AirScreen, which will allow you to mirror your iPhone or iPad to Fire Stick. Here's how to do that:

Mirroring your phone screen is not the same as using AirPlay to cast from your iPhone or iPad to an AirPlay 2-enabled streaming device. You may not get the same picture results as you would from AirPlay, but you can change your device to landscape mode (turn it sideways) to improve how the picture mirrors on your Fire Stick.

  1. First, download and install the AirScreen app on your Fire Stick.

  2. Once installed, open the app, and make sure your Fire Stick and iOS device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  3. The first time you use the app, you'll get a prompt to scan a QR code to connect the app to your Apple device and when prompted, tap Open in Chrome.

  4. You'll receive a prompt to start the Screen Mirroring capability on your Apple Device. Swipe down from the upper right corner of your Apple device to open the Control Center and tap the Screen Mirroring icon.

  5. Then choose the device to which you want to screen mirror. Once you select the correct device, your Apple device screen will be mirrored to your Fire Stick and displayed on the TV or monitor.

    You will need the help of a mirroring app such as AirScreen. Select Home > Search to find and download the app to your Fire Stick. Ensure your MacBook and Fire Stick are on the same Wi-Fi network > launch the AirScreen app on your Fire Stick > select Help > macOS > AirPlay. On your Mac, click the AirPlay icon and choose your Fire Stick from the menu to start casting.

  • How do I install AirPlay on a Fire Stick?

    You can't install this feature on your Fire Stick. A workaround is to sideload Kodi, which has an AirPlay feature, on your Fire Stick to mirror your iPhone. If you use apps outside the Amazon Appstore, you will need to take different steps to update sideloaded apps on your Fire Stick.
