Here's everything you need to know to quickly increase and decrease your screen brightness on your Windows 10 device, fine-tune the brightness levels exactly to your liking, enable dynamic lighting, and reduce the blue light levels before you go to bed. Instructions in this article apply to Windows 10. How to Change Brightness on Windows 10 Adjusting the brightness on your Windows 10 machine is fairly easy and can be replicated quickly should you need to change these settings again. Select the Notifications icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen on your Windows 10 computer or tablet to open the Action Center. Select Expand in the Action Center. If you own a Windows 10 device with a touchscreen, such as a Surface Book or Surface Laptop, you can also open the Action Center by swiping in from the right side of the screen with your finger. You should see a square box with a sun icon in it or a slider with a sun icon on the left. Use the icon to cycle through five pre-set screen brightness levels or drag the slider; 0% is the lowest possible brightness setting, while 100% is the highest. Exit the Action Center by clicking off the screen or selecting the Notifications icon again. The brightness settings will be applied. Access More Brightness Settings The display settings in Windows 10 System Settings includes other options. Right-click the brightness button in Action Center with your mouse. A link called Go to Settings will pop up. Select it with your left mouse button. Alternatively, on a touch device, you can perform a long press on the button with your finger. The Go to Settings option will appear when you release your finger from the button. Drag the slider under Brightness and Color to adjust the screen brightness. Toggle the Night Light button to On, if desired. This feature reduces the amount of blue light emitted from your device's screen, making everything appear more orange. It's commonly believed blue light can keep you awake at night so you should reduce your exposure to it in the hours leading up to bedtime. Select Night Light Settings to customize this feature. Choose a schedule, brightness strength, or opt to turn the feature on at sunset. Close the window when finished. The selected settings will be applied.
