How can you tell which online backup service is better than the other? Every service's plans are different, they use different words to seemingly describe the same thing, and it's confusing!

The following question is one of many you'll find in my Online Backup FAQ:

"I'm having a really difficult time figuring out which online backup service to pick. They all seem so different!"

The cloud backup services I've profiled may all seem very different from each other, but at the end of the day they all do the same thing: they keep your data backed up and safe.

Beyond that, you want to choose an online backup service that has the storage space, features, and price that fit your needs. It sounds like some kind of cheap marketing answer, but it's the truth.

My suggestion then is to keep reading through these FAQs. I answer a lot of questions that should help you decide how much space you need, what features may be important to you, and what a reasonable price should be.

If you feel like jumping ahead, my Online Backup Comparison Chart is probably the most revealing. You can see how features compare among my very favorite online backup services.

See my Price Comparison: Unlimited Online Backup Plans and Price Comparison: Multi-Computer Online Backup Plans pieces for updated price comparisons if you already know one of those features is most important to you.

I also have a running interview of sorts with all of the online backup services that I profile where they answer questions about their service that are hard to relay in a simple comparison chart - topics like NSA access, company size, and more. You can look through them all in my Online Backup Q&A series.

Here are a few more questions that I'm often asked during the search for the right backup service:
