Hide sound icon on PowerPoint slide using Effect Options

Many PowerPoint slide shows play with accompanying sounds or music that starts automatically, either for the whole slideshow or just when one slide is shown. However, you don't want to show the sound icon on the slide and you may have forgotten to select the option to hide the sound icon during the show.

Note: Instructions in this article apply to PowerPoint 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 and PowerPoint for Mac 2016 and Office 365.

  1. Click once on the audio clip icon on the slide to select it.

  2. Under Audio Tools, click the Playback tab.

    • For 2007, under Sound Tools, click the Options tab.
  3. Within the Audio Options group, select Hide During Show.

    • For 2007, within the Sound Options group, select Hide During Show.

  4. To test your presentation, click the Slide Show tab.

  5. Click From Beginning.

    • Alternatively, on your keyboard, hit F5 to start the slideshow.
  6. The sound icon should now be invisible during your presentation.

PowerPoint for Mac 2016 and Office 365.

  1. Click the audio clip icon.

  2. On the PowerPoint ribbon, on the Playback tab, select Hide During Show.
