How to Hide Self View on Zoom

Can't stop checking yourself out? There's a fix for that

What to Know

  • On PC or Mac: In Gallery mode, right-click your image. Select Hide Self View. You will no longer see yourself, but others will still see you.
  • To see yourself again, click View > Show Self View.
  • Mobile app: You can hide your video completely with Stop Video in Gallery View. This option turns your video off for everyone.

This article explains how to hide or show yourself in Zoom without closing the camera.

How to Hide Yourself on Zoom

Get distracted seeing yourself on video? You can conceal your image from yourself, even as others continue to see you perfectly fine during Zoom meetings.

This option isn't available on a mobile device. You can only hide your video altogether using the Stop Video button in Gallery View. However, that hides you from everyone else, too, defeating the point of letting other participants see you while you hide from yourself.

Once you're in Gallery view (the Brady Bunch screen) during a meeting, follow these steps if you're on a PC or Mac:

  1. Find your image on the gallery screen.

  2. Right-click your image to show a small pop-up menu.

Zoom menu showing Hide Self View option.
  3. Click Hide Self View.

You'll appear off-screen now to yourself, but others will still see you.

This setting won't transfer permanently to other meetings. You'll need to reset it every time.

How to Show Yourself on Zoom Again

If you want to show yourself again, follow these steps:

  1. Hover your mouse anywhere over the meeting window.

  2. Locate the View menu at the top right of the screen.

The Zoom screen showing the View option in the top right.
  3. Click View.

  4. Click Show Self View.

The View menu displaying the Show Self View button.

You'll be back on screen and can see yourself as others see you.

  • How do you hide participants while hosting a Zoom?

If the participant's video is off, you can hide their names or profile pictures on the Zoom Room's display. In the Participants panel, select More > Hide Non-video Participants. To show participants again, select More > Show Non-video Participants.

  • Can you hide the bottom bar on Zoom?

Yes. To disable (hide) the floating control bar when you're sharing your screen, select More > Hide Floating Meeting Controls. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+H.
