How to Hide Notifications on Your Android Lock Screen

This article explains how to hide notifications on your Android lock screen on either default Android installs or the more customized Samsung and HTC interface. Instructions in this article apply to smartphones and tablets with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and newer. Some steps may vary depending on the device manufacturer and model.

How to Hide Lock Screen Notifications on Stock Android

  1. Open Settings > General.

  2. Tap Apps & notifications (or Sound & notifications in older versions of Android).

  3. Tap Notifications > Lock screen.

  4. Tap Hide sensitive notifications only or Hide all notifications.

  5. To make notifications visible again, repeat the steps above and tap Show all notifications.

How to Hide Lock Screen Notifications on Samsung and HTC

For some Samsung phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Lock screen.

  3. Tap Notifications.

  4. Tap Hide content or Notification icons only.

  5. To hide or show notifications from specific apps, scroll down and tap Show notifications from.

  6. Tap the switches to toggle notifications for individual apps.

On older HTC phones not running stock Android, select Settings > Sound & notification > When device is locked to access these options. If none of these methods work, search for lock screen in the Settings app.
