Sharing your favorite song on Spotify with someone is always nice. But can two people listen to Spotify at the same time? Yes. Here's how to listen together on Spotify in real-time in a way that doesn't need you to buy a Spotify Family Plan or be in the same place.

Can I Listen to Spotify with a Friend at the Same Time?

The short answer is: Yes, two people can listen to Spotify simultaneously.

Spotify Group Session is a beta feature for collaborative listening. Groups of two to five people can start listening to a song or a playlist on one device or their own devices in real-time.

  1. Open Spotify and start playing a song, a playlist, or a podcast.

  2. Tap the Connect icon at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Select the Start Session button under Start a Group Session.

Connect > Start Session > Invite friends on Spotify on iOS
  4. Select Invite friends. Spotify provides three ways to send the invitation link:

    • Share with any messaging app like WhatsApp.
    • Copy link to send it via any other medium like email.
    • Allow friends to scan the QR invite codes with their phone's camera.
  5. To exit the group session, tap End Session if you are the host. As a guest, select Leave Session to remove yourself from a friend's Group Session.

While listening to Spotify simultaneously, both host and guests can control the song or the playlist. It works just like any individual session. Host and guests can pause, play, skip, and select tracks to listen together. Anyone can also add songs to the queue in the usual way. Any change will show up on all grouped devices in real-time.

Do You Need Spotify Premium to Share Your Account With Another Person?

Yes, Spotify Group Sessions is a Premium-only feature. Only listeners with a Premium account can be part of the session and control the playback. All users must be on the mobile and tablet apps as it's not available on the Spotify desktop app or the web player.

As the feature is in Beta, Spotify can modify it at a future date.

Tip:

Spotify's Blend is a neat way to sync your music tastes with a friend. Blend is a shared playlist that combines your music tastes with a friend's, thus helping each other match and mix listening experiences. Combine this automatic playlist with a Group Session to bond over music.

Spotify Blend is available to both Spotify Free and Premium users worldwide.
