Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, from Niantic, is available on iOS and Android devices alike. Niantic also created the worldwide Pokemon GO, and the two titles are fairly similar—you load the app and walk around, finding points of interest in the real world as points of interest in the game.

Instead of catching Pokemon in this augmented reality (AR) game, you're casting spells to battle the forces of evil. Whether you're just starting out or are a veteran spellcaster, these are the cheats and tricks you need to know to get the most out of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The Masterful Spell Trick

The key to leveling up as fast as possible is by learning to cast "Masterful" spells. When casting spells in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, a combination of speed and accuracy as you trace the symbol goes into granting you bonus experience—the highest rank, Masterful, can be difficult to achieve. However, there's a trick you can use to keep that XP increasing as quickly as possible.

This trick takes a bit of practice, and it works best on spells with mostly straight lines, but it can help if you have trouble getting the speed necessary to get better spellcasting ranks. Here's what you do:

  1. Hold your finger on the starting point of the spell. This will start the timer at the top of the screen.

  2. Place your next finger on the point where the spell motion changes direction—a corner or start of a curve.

  3. Lift your first finger and place another finger on the next point in the spell. Release your second finger.

  4. Repeat this process until the spell is completed.

It takes practice to get the timing of this trick down, but it will enable you to cast spells extremely quickly and achieve the "Masterful" rank as much as possible.

Brew Potions Faster with Master Notes

Potions are some of the most useful items you'll find in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but they can take a long time to brew them. Master Notes are a series of gestures you can make on the potion cauldron to cut down the brewing time. Every potion has different Master Notes, but once you've input them once, they're saved for any future brewing.

There are eight different gestures for Master Notes, and each potion will need a series of gestures done consecutively.

The gestures are:

  • A clockwise circle inside the cauldron
  • Counterclockwise circle inside the cauldron
  • Horizontal line across the cauldron
  • Vertical line across the cauldron
  • Pinch inside the cauldron
  • Zoom out on the cauldron
  • Shake the cauldron
  • Tap the cauldron several times.

Here is each potion:

A Note on Third-Party Cheats

There are plenty of programs out there that let you cheat in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. They aren't hard to find, and can give you all manner of advantages—more resources, sped up timers, or faking your location so you don't actually need to walk around.

That said, it's best to avoid these cheats like the plague, for a few different reasons. First, Niantic has a lot of resources available as a company, and has a ton of experience with this type of game. They've been known to hand out lifetime bans for anyone they catch cheating. Second, many of these cheats can infect your device with spyware or other malicious programs.
