The AE963 loudspeaker from GTL Sound Labs is designed for in-wall installation. The speakers are applicable for two-channel audio or multi-channel home theater applications or can be used as in wall speakers for whole house setups. One advantage of in-wall speakers is they don't clutter your listening space with unwanted "boxes" by blending into the room environment. To find out if the GTL Sound Labs AE963 in wall speaker is an option you should consider, continue with this review and photo profile.

Here is a look the front view of the GTL AE963 In-Wall Loudspeaker with the speaker grill removed.

In this vertical position, the 5.25-inch mid-range driver is located on the top, the 3-inch tweeter is located on the right, and the 9-inch woofer is located on the bottom.

Also, note the screws along the periphery. The smaller screws attach the speaker face to the rest of the casing, while the three larger screws, located each side of the speaker face are used to tighten the wall mounting anchors so that the AE963 can be firmly attached to a wall (will be shown later in this profile).

Here is a look at top of the GTL AE963 loudspeaker (if mounted vertically). The speaker connections are traditional gold plated binding posts that can accommodate bare wire, horseshoe clips, or banana plugs. As you can see the speaker terminals are recessed slightly into the cabinet.

Shown on this page is an additional close-up view of the speaker terminals provided on the GTL Sound Labs AE963 in-wall speaker that provides a more detail view of the speaker terminals are positioned.

I also wanted to point that although this is a high-end speaker, I thought that the speaker terminals were rather small - they work fine with 18 gauge wire, and 16-inch gauge wire is snug, but larger 14 or 12 gauge wire that is sometimes used in wall installations would be a too large to work well with these connectors.

On the other hand, the connectors are gold plated for best connectivity and are very sturdy despite their smaller-than-expected size.

Here is a look at a side view of the GTL AE963 loudspeaker in a face down position that features a side view of the casing, as well as the mounting anchors. There are three mounting anchors on each side of the speaker that provide the method of securing the speaker on inside facing part of a wall.

Here is a closer look at one of the mounting anchors included on the GTL A963. The anchor houses a long Philips-head screw with cylinder part of the assembly. For ease of installation, the anchor simply swings out from its recessed resting position and the Philips-head screw is tightened from the front of the speaker until the entire casing is firmly attached to the wall.

It is important to note that before you attach the speaker to the wall, that your mounting location can handle the weight of the speaker, that you have attached your speaker wire to the terminals, and that you have removed the speaker grill in order to access the screw heads.
