The Latest News on Pixel 5

Unlike the Pixel 4, there isn't an XL version of the Pixel 5.

Pixel 5 Design

You can see in Google’s official picture of their newest phones, shown above, that one is slightly larger than the other. As it turns out, the Pixel 5 is a bit smaller than the Pixel 4a 5G.

The phone resembles the Pixel 4a with the same punch-hole camera at the top left and a square camera module on the back. Like other phones with a fingerprint reader, this one is just below and to the center of the camera. It has a larger 6.0-inch screen, though.

There have been talks that beyond the obvious black finish from these photos, there will also be a green option. The phone will have a metal chassis.

Here's a 3D rendering from pre-launch of what the Pixel 5 might look like:

Pixel 5 vs Pixel 4

A common assumption based on leaks was that the Pixel 5 wouldn’t necessarily retain all the same features as the Pixel 4. That's true, as the Pixel 5 loses Face Unlock and the gesture-sensing technology that the Pixel 4 has, which is due to the edge-to-edge display. Those two sensors are housed in the Pixel 4's top bezel, which is missing from the Pixel 5.

All that said, the Pixel 5 (and Pixel 4a 5G) will support 5G while the Pixel 4 and 4a (the current version) don’t. Some other improvements include a larger battery for a longer-lasting charge, more RAM, reverse wireless charging, and greater storage capacity than the Pixel 4.

Pixel 5 Specs & Hardware

Below are the finalized Pixel 5 specs and hardware details. As expected, the cameras got an upgrade, adding Night Sight to Portrait Mode as well as Portrait Light. The latter feature helps illuminate the subject, even when they're backlit by a bright sky. This feature is also available in the Google Photos editor, so you can add this effect after the fact.

For video, Google added three stabilizing modes: locked, active, and cinematic pan, which creates a Hollywood effect by slowing down the motion by two times.

The Pixel 5 also gets an Extreme Batter Saver mode and a Hold for Me feature in which Google Assistant waits on hold and alerts you when someone comes on the line. The company says older Pixels will get Extreme Batter Saver and Hold for Me, though it didn't specify which models.
