Google Notifier for Mac OS X 1.10.4 - Gmail Mail Checker

The Bottom Line

Google Notifier for Mac OS X is a slick and simple but also clever and capable Gmail alert mechanism for the OS X menu bar that also previews senders and subjects, provides many shortcuts to the Gmail site and can make Gmail the default OS X mail program. Guide Review - Google Notifier for Mac OS X 1.10.4 - Gmail Mail Checker

Imagine you have new mail in your Gmail account — and you don't even know it! If that is as unthinkable as it is unbearable to you, or if you just like to know when new Gmail arrives, Google Gmail Notifier for Mac OS X is your tool.

A simple icon in the menu bar announces and counts unread mail in your Gmail Inbox and lets you go to Gmail directly. Better even, Google Gmail Notifier for Mac OS X displays the sender and subject for each mail (optionally in a slick pop-up window) and lets you open messages individually, too.

You can even use Gmail Notifier for Mac OS X to make Gmail your default email handler in OS X (for mailto: links, for example).

With all that great integration of Gmail, your browser and OS X, it's a pity Google Gmail Notifier does not differentiate between labels. A way to archive, mark as spam or delete messages right away could make Google Gmail Notifier even more useful a tool.

A plug-in architecture lets you pep up the notification options a bit, by supporting Growl, for example.
