GOGroove FlexSMART X2 is Hands-Free Calling and An FM Transmitter Too

You can find cheaper FM transmitters that work just about as well, but the GOgroove FlexSMART X2 offers a feature set that's hard to pass up. This unit is built around the basic platform of an FM transmitter, which can be used to broadcast music from your phone or MP3 player to your car stereo. In addition to the FM transmitter, the FlexSMART X2 also includes is also a line out jack, which is useful if your head unit has a line-in jack.

The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 also includes multiple ways to connect the device to your phone. The primary method of connectivity is Bluetooth, which allows you to place and receive hands-free calls just as if you had a Bluetooth car stereo. It also includes a 3.5mm line-in jack if you prefer a wired connection to your phone or MP3 player.

The Good

The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 works better in some vehicles than others, but the flexible positioning arm allows for quite a bit of customization. Most FM transmitters plug directly into a cigarette lighter or accessory socket, which can make it difficult to reach them when you're driving. The controls of the FlexSMART X2 are located on top of a flexible arm, however, so they can be shifted into an easily reachable position.

In addition to the unique design, the GOgroove FlexSMART X2 also provides a wealth of options. The Bluetooth functionality can be used to pull music from your phone, which can then be transmitted to your car stereo via either FM or a wired connection. You can also plug an MP3 player into the unit via a wired connection, so the FlexSMART X2 is compatible with a wide variety of phones and MP3 players. The FlexSMART X2 also has a powered USB port, so you can use it to charge your phone, MP3 player, or any other device that can be charged via USB.

The Bad

There's no such thing as a one size fits all solution, and there are some instances where the GOgroove FlexSMART X2 doesn't work very well. In some metropolitan areas, you may have a hard time finding enough free space on the FM band for the transmitter to work properly. That's not an issue if your head unit has a line in jack, but it's worth checking into if you do want to use the FM transmitter.

The long, flexible arm can also get in the way in certain vehicles. In some instances, the arm can get in the way of buttons or even interfere with the shifter. The arm can be bent out of the way in most cases, but you should look for a different solution if your shifter butts right up against your cigarette lighter socket.

The Bottom Line

If you're just looking for an FM transmitter, you can find them cheaper than the GOgroove FlexSMART X2. However, this is a great unit if you're looking for something that has a lot of flexibility. The combination of a hands-free calling device with an FM transmitter is handy, and the FlexSMART X2 has just about every input and output option you could ask for.
