How to Get Verified on TikTok

Get that verification badge next to your name

Much like other social networks, TikTok marks certain user accounts with a blue verified check mark. These blue ticks work in much the same way as the similar symbols do on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and are primarily used to confirm the identity of the person or organisation behind an account.

Because the majority of verified TikTok accounts belong to celebrities or popular social media influencers, having a blue verified check mark next to your TikTok username has become something of an elite status symbol and a kind of goal to strive for.

What’s the Difference Between a TikTok Popular Creator and a Verified Account?

There are two types of verified account statuses on TikTok. Both implement the same blue tick next to user account names but each has a different descriptor to the right of it.

Here’s what each type of TikTok verified accounts is for.

  • Popular creator: This is the easiest status to get as it’s awarded to TikTok users who are active, have a lot of followers, get a lot of engagement on their content, and abide by the social network guidelines.
  • Verified account: Verified accounts are much harder to get and are typically only given to super-popular celebrities and major organizations.

The blue check mark shows up next to usernames in searches and within follower lists while the type of verified account is displayed next to the check mark on TikTok profiles.

Getting verified on TikTok doesn’t offer many benefits but it can be useful in proving your account is truly run by you and the blue check mark does offer a lot of clout which can lead to more clicks in search results and more followers over the long term.

How Do You Get Verified on TikTok?

Unfortunately, TikTok doesn’t have any kind of application process for getting your account verified as a popular creator nor as a verified account. The blue check mark is given out by TikTok staff when they see a need or want to reward a user for their high quality content and contributions to the network.

Because of this, you’ll either need to be really famous outside of TikTok or become famous on the platform and hope the TikTok overlords notice you.

There are a lot of online scams and fake websites which claim to be able to get your TikTok account verified but all of them are cons designed to either gain access to your account, your personal information, or both. Using such services are dangerous and could even get your TikTok account shut down.

How Many Followers Do You Need to Get Verified?

The minimum number of followers needed to get verified on TikTok has never officially been stated. Some celebrities are able to get their accounts verified simply because they’re celebrities even though they have zero TikTok followers.

Popular creator accounts tend to have anywhere from ten thousand followers up to several million followers. It should be noted that though there are numerous TikTok accounts with follower numbers in the hundreds of thousands that aren’t verified so the requirements clearly aren’t just about how many followers you have.

Are There Requirements For How to Become Verified on TikTok?

There are no specific requirements that need to be met to get verified on TikTok, however, the following four factors are taken into consideration when users are chosen to join the elite:

  • Authenticity: Make sure you are who you say you are and your videos are genuine.
  • Uniqueness: Prove you offer something different than the millions of other users. Don’t just copy someone else’s style. Stand out in the crowd.
  • Activity: Post content on a regular basis and also watch videos made by others and comment on them daily.
  • Follows the rules: Having your account flagged for breaking the rules will decrease your chances of getting verified enormously. No nudity, no hate speech, and no bullying.

Is There a TikTok Crown?

The TikTok crown label has been completely phased out and has been replaced with the popular account status verification system.

It is no longer possible to get a crown on your TikTok account and all existing crowns have been replaced with the blue check mark and the popular creator label.
