Whether you want to send something you said to another person, or you want to send a message exactly as you received it to another person in your contacts list, knowing how to forward a text message on your smartphone can save you time and energy.

Instructions in this article apply to all smartphones running Android 7 (Nougat) and later. Upgrade to the latest version of Android to follow along with this guide.

How to Forward a Message on Your Smartphone

To send an old message to someone new:

  1. Open the text message app on your phone.

  2. Find the text message you wish to forward. It can either be a message you sent or one sent to you.

  3. Tap and hold the text message to bring up a menu bar at the top of the screen.

  4. Tap the right-arrow icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

  5. Enter a recipient. If you start typing the name or phone number of someone in your contacts list, your phone will suggest names of people to send it to.

It's possible to send the message to multiple people by entering multiple contacts.

  6. Edit the text if you want to, or send the message as is.

  7. Tap Send to forward your message.
