How to Forward a Text Message on Your Smartphone

Forward your text messages to another phone in a snap.

Whether you want to send something you texted to another person, or you want to forward a message you received from one person to someone else in your contacts list, do it by forwarding the text message within your messaging app.

Instructions in this article apply to all smartphones running Android 7 (Nougat) and later. Upgrade to the latest version of Android to follow along with this guide. For iPhone instructions, read How to Share a Text Message on the iPhone.

How to Forward a Message on Your Smartphone

To send an existing message to someone new:

  1. Open the text message app on your phone.

  2. Find the text message you want to forward. It can either be a message you sent or one sent to you.

  3. Tap and hold the text message. A menu appears with several options.

  4. Tap Forward.

  5. Enter a recipient. When you start typing the name or phone number of someone in your contacts list, the app suggests names of people to send it to.

    To send the message to multiple people, enter multiple contacts.

  6. Edit the text if you want.

  7. Tap Send.
