How to Fix It When TNT Won't Activate on Roku

Troubleshooting issues with Roku Channels

There are several causes for TNT to stop working work on your Roku, it, and the problem could present itself in a few different ways:

  • TNT for Roku might display a message that asks for the activation code after you’ve already completed the activation step.
  • TNT for Roku may show as activated on your computer screen but is not reflective on the Roku device.
  • TNT app never makes it past the activation screen.

The activation error with TNT generally appears when you are trying to activate the app for the first time. Because there isn’t a login screen on the app itself you have to activate it through another device such as a laptop or a tablet.

Regardless of how you see the error, there are a few steps you can take to try to get TNT (or other channels) working again on your Roku.

The original Roku 1 and 2 players are no longer supported by the TNT app, this could cause an issue with compatibility.

Cause of Activation Errors on the TNT App

One cause of the activation issue with the TNT app could be the Wi-FI strength. If the signal is too weak, the app will have trouble connecting.

Another possible cause is a forgotten or wrong password, or the cookies stored in your web browser. If you tend to stream on a lot of different apps then your cookie cache could have too much data built up in it. It’s always good to clean the cache out every once in a while if you plan on using a lot of different streaming apps.

The third cause could be the app itself, which might have become corrupted and needs a reinstallation and reboot. Because the Roku device only powers down if the USB cable is attached to the TV instead of the wall, there are times when the device will get jammed up like any type of computer. Doing a reset is oftentimes a good route to take if none of the above options have worked out.

The TNT app is reliant on the fact that you have an active cable subscription; without this, you aren’t able to stream with the TNT app.

How to Fix It When the TNT Roku App Won’t Activate

  1. Clear your browser cookies. This is the most common problem with the activation process for TNT. Because you are using a web browser to activate the app your cookies might need to be cleared.

This process is similar across several different web browsers including Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

  2. Reinstall the TNT channel. There are times when the TNT channel becomes corrupted. To fix that issue, try deleting the app from your Roku and then reinstalling the channel to get a fresh start.

When removing a channel from the Roku device you will lose any login settings you have on that specific app.

  3. Check the wireless signal strength. A poor wireless connection can deeply impact the quality of your streaming session. If the signal strength on your Roku is poor, the device could have trouble logging into the TNT streaming app.

    1. Open the Roku home screen.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Click Settings > Network.
    4. The signal strength will be shown on screen as Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor.

If the signal strength is fair or poor you might want to either reboot the Roku, reboot your router and modem, or get a Wi-Fi signal booster.

Because the Roku devices don’t have a physical power button you’ll need to unplug the Roku completely to perform a hard reboot. Unplug, wait 10 seconds, then plug the power cable back into the power outlet.

  4. Reset your Roku. If all else fails, try resetting your Roku box or stick. A factory reset is a last resort, but it can clear out many errors which aren't resolved with the steps above.

Factory resetting your Roku device will erase all the channels you've installed and all your network data, along with any personal data or settings. This should be a last resort option, and you should be sure you have all your usernames and passwords stored elsewhere before you start the process.
