Causes of Amazon Fire Stick Black Screen

If your Fire Stick's screen is black, then you're experiencing an issue with a wide variety of possible causes. This can include problems with your Fire Stick, your TV, or the connection between your Fire Stick and the TV, to name a few.

Usually, a black screen is a temporary glitch which can be resolved without much effort, but if none of the steps below work for you, your Fire Stick may be defective and need to be replaced.

How to Fix Fire Stick Black Screen Issues

There may not be an easy way to know exactly what's causing black screen issues on Fire Stick, but the fixes you can try to fix this problem are luckily not that involved.

1. Restart your Fire Stick. A Fire Stick doesn't have a power button, so you will need to disconnect your Fire Stick from power, wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect it to power. This will power cycle your device and can resolve temporary issues.
   

2. Use a different HDMI port. There may be a problem with the HDMI port your Fire Stick is connected to, so try another port and see if the problem resolves itself to find out what's causing the issue.
   

3. Use a different TV. The problem may be with your TV and not just an HDMI port on your TV. To find out if this is the case, try connecting your Fire Stick to another TV and see if it works.
   

4. Connect your Fire Stick directly to your TV. If you use any kind of HDMI cable extender, adapter, or hub of any kind, there may be a problem with these devices and not your Fire Stick. Connect the Fire Stick directly to your TV to test this.
   

5. Wait up to a half-hour. Like with many applications, software can hang unexpectedly sometimes, but sometimes, if given enough time the problem can resolve itself. This doesn't always work, but it's usually worth a try.
   

6. Check to see your TV supports HDCP. An Amazon Fire Stick requires an HDCP-compatible TV. The overwhelming majority of TVs support this feature, but not all do. A simple Google search of your model of television will reveal whether or not your TV has this feature.
   

7. Contact Amazon support. If none of these steps fix your Fire Stick's black screen, there may be something wrong inside your Fire Stick itself. This isn't likely, but contacting support can be a good way to find out what's going wrong. Make sure to tell the representative what steps you've already taken to try and fix the problem.
