Updated headline to reflect this. Update (5:44 PM ET): Facebook Newsroom appears to be back up, which could mean that the company is getting closer to resolving the outage. Update (4:23 PM ET): Facebook is still down and although they're not sharing a lot of details, Facebook publicly apologized for the outage and said they are "experiencing network issues." At this time, the only word on when Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and related services will be back up is "as soon as possible." Update (2:24 PM EDT): New reports that the DNS A and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have been wiped have started to appear. Essentially, these records act as a roadmap for how your computer or device connects to that particular website. Without those records in place, users' devices can't connect to the servers that would normally host Facebook, which would explain why users are seeing so many issues connecting to the social media site. Update (12:34 PM EDT): Facebook took to Twitter to acknowledge there is a problem with the service and stated it's "working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible." Original Story: Facebook and several of the company’s other services are experiencing issues right now. Reports of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger being down began to appear Monday, as users around the world took to websites like Twitter and Down Detector to report the issues. Facebook hasn’t shared an official statement on the outages just yet, but reports that users are having problems connecting continue to roll in. Earlier on Monday, hashtags like #deleteFacebook were trending worldwide following an interview with a whistleblower that Facebook has prioritized making money over the safety of its users. It is unclear if the connection issues are related to the revelations in any way. For now, all users can do is wait for updates from official channels. Developing story… Was this page helpful?
