How to Enable or Disable Conversation View in Yahoo Mail

Declutter your inbox with Yahoo Mail conversation view

When you group a series of email replies into a conversation, you reduce clutter in your inbox by showing just a single entry for the conversation rather than all the individual entries for the replies. The conversation looks like a single email, but it lists the recent senders and the number of emails it contains. You can instruct Yahoo Mail to group emails into conversations by topic or to keep them separate, depending on your personal preference.

Better Together, Better Apart

If replies belong with their original messages, shouldn't the two—or many—appear together? Yahoo Mail can be set to group such threads into a conversation. In your inbox, for example, together with the latest message in a thread, you will find all emails belonging to that same conversation including your replies from the Sent folder—all in the same conversation.

Not only does this make reading mail more straightforward, you can also act on any of the conversation's messages as a group to archive or delete them, or you can mark an entire thread as read.

Enable or Disable Conversation View in Yahoo Mail

To have Yahoo Mail group related messages—an original email and its replies including yours from the Sent folder—as a thread so you can read and act on them in one place in bulk:

  1. Make sure you are using the full version of Yahoo Mail. Check in Settings | Viewing email | Mail version section. Full-Featured should be checked, not Basic.
  1. To enable or disable conversation view, position the mouse cursor over the gear icon in the top right corner of Yahoo Mail.
  2. Select Settings from the menu that appears.
  3. Click the Viewing email category.
  4. Click in the box next to Enable conversations in the When viewing message lists section to place a check mark and turn on conversations.
  1. To disable Conversation view in Yahoo Mail, remove the check mark in front of Enable conversations and each email will be listed separately.
  2. Click Save.
