It's easy to download YouTube videos on Android. Doing so lets you save the video for offline use so that you can watch YouTube without Wi-Fi or a data connection, like on a plane or in an area with poor connectivity.

Using the official YouTube app is one way to download YouTube movies, music videos, and other content, but there are also free YouTube video downloaders you can use.

The information below should apply no matter who made your Android phone: Samsung, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc. See How to Download YouTube Videos to Your iPhone if you're using an iPhone.

YouTube Premium

If you have a YouTube Premium subscription, you can download YouTube videos directly from the official YouTube app. Of course, you have to pay for this subscription, but there is a trial and it comes with other features beyond the ability to save videos.

Saving videos from YouTube to your Android device is as easy as selecting Download below the video and then choosing from the list of available options, such as 720p or 360p.

TubeMate YouTube Downloader

TubeMate is a free third-party app you can use instead of the YouTube app to download videos from not only YouTube but also Vimeo, Dailymotion, and other similar video streaming services.

  1. TubeMate isn't available from the Google Play Store, so you have to download it as an APK file.

  2. Open the app and search for the video you want to download from YouTube.

  3. Tap the download button.

  4. Select the quality of the video you want to download.

  5. Select the red download button off to the right.

Y2mate Downloader for YouTube

Y2mate is a website that lets you download videos from YouTube to your computer, after which you can transfer the files to your Android device. Another way to use Y2mate is directly from your Android phone or tablet, via any web browser like Chrome or Firefox.

  1. Visit Y2mate and paste into the box the URL to the YouTube video.

For computer users, select Download .mp4 and choose a folder to save the YouTube video. You can optionally rename the video now, too.
