To install Skype, simply click on the platform that you would like to install Skype on, and follow the prompts:

On a computer, a file will be downloaded when you click on the link for Mac, Windows, or Linux installation. Once the file is downloaded, follow the prompts for your specific operating system. For Mac, you can find step-by-step installation instructions here, and for Windows, here.

On a mobile device, you can just open the app once it's finished downloading from the app store

 Now that you've installed Skype, you can get started in chatting with your friends and family!

Tips and tricks for using Skype

  • Once you install Skype, you'll need to sign up for an account in order to begin. By having an account, you'll also be able to use Skype across a range of devices, such as your computer and mobile phone, and have all of your correspondence synched, so you have access to your records from anywhere. Signing up for an account is easy -- simply fill out the information you are prompted for once you open Skype. You'll need your phone number, first and last name, birthdate. You'll also need to set up a password.
  • You can use Skype to send instant messages, make voice calls, or make video calls
    • ​To make voice calls, click on the phone icon to get started
    • To make video calls, click on the video icon to get started
    • To send instant messages, click on the text bubble icon
  • Skype is free to use for calling other Skype users anywhere in the world. If you would like to call landlines or mobile phones, however, there are fees involved. Click here to check out Skype's rates.
  • To find friends on Skpe, enter your friend's name into the search bar at the top of Skype
