This includes a history of the sites that you have visited, temporary Internet files (also known as cache), and cookies. Depending on your browsing habits, some of this information can be considered sensitive. An example of this would be login credentials saved in a cookie file. Due to the potential nature of these data components, you may have the desire to remove them from your hard drive. This tutorial is only intended for users running the Maxthon Web browser on Windows operating systems. Luckily, Maxthon makes it fairly easy to facilitate the deletion of this information. This step-by-step tutorial walks you through the process, describing each private data type along the way. First click on Maxthon's main menu button, located in the upper right-hand corner and represented by three broken lines. When the drop-down menu appears, select the option labeled Clear browsing data. You can also utilize the following keyboard shortcut in place of selecting this menu item: CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE. Maxthon's Clear browsing data dialog should now be displayed, overlaying your browser window. Several private data components are listed, each accompanied by a checkbox. They are as follows. Clear browsing history: Checked by default, browsing history keeps a record of all websites that you have visited. You can view this record by choosing History from Maxthon's main menu.Clear address bar History: Maxthon's Smart Address Bar can be configured to display your Favorites, browsing history, or a combination of the two.Clear last session: Maxthon's Last Session data contains all browser tabs that you did not close the last time you exited the application.Clear download history: Checked by default, Maxthon keeps a record of every file that you download through the browser, including details such as the size of each download.Delete cache files: Checked by default, Maxthon utilizes its cache to store images, pages, and URLs of recently visited Web pages. By using the cache, the browser can render these pages much faster on subsequent visits to the site by loading the images, etc. locally from the cache rather than from the Web server itself.Delete cookies: A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard drive when you visit certain sites. Each cookie is used to tell a Web server when you return to its Web page. Cookies can be helpful in remembering certain settings that you have on a website, as well as important information such as login credentials. Now that you are familiar with each of the private data components listed, the next step is to ensure that all items you wish to delete are accompanied by a check mark. Once you are ready to delete Maxthon's private data, click on the Clear now button. If you wish to automatically clear your private data each time you close Maxthon, place a check mark next to the option labeled Auto clear on exit.
