How to Delete 'Continue Watching' on Netflix

No, I don't want to continue watching

Netflix saves where you are in a show or movie, so if you ever stop and come back, you can pick up where you left off. It’s a great feature, but it’s also a curse. Sometimes you need to know how to remove "continue watching" items from Netflix.

Maybe you’re using a friend or family member’s Netflix account, or you watched something you don’t want your significant other to see. Sometimes you try a new show, don’t like it, and don’t want Netflix to keep recommending it. There’s also a possibility you finished the movie or show but stopped at the end credits.

Whatever the reason, we’ll walk you through how to get rid of "continue watching" on Netflix.

You can only do this on your computer or mobile device (not smart TVs or streaming devices). It might take up to 24 hours for the titles you hide from your Netflix account to actually disappear from the "continue watching" section.

Clear Your Netflix Watch History

Whether you're using the mobile app or the desktop version of Netflix, you'll need to log in to your account, pick the profile you want to delete "continue watching" items from, and then open the Viewing activity page.

Delete Items on Mobile Devices

These instructions apply to iPhone and Android devices made by a variety of manufacturers, such as Samsung, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.

  1. Select the profile you wish to edit the items from.

  2. Tap the More sandwich menu at the bottom right of the screen.

  3. Select Account to open your Netflix account settings in your web browser.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Viewing activity.

  5. Select the circle with a line through it, located next to every movie/show you've watched, to mark those items as hidden.

If you hide an episode of a TV show, you'll also see a link you can tap to hide the whole series. To hide all the items listed, including movies and TV shows, scroll to the very bottom and select Hide all.

Delete Items on Desktop Browser

  1. Select the down arrow next to your profile pic at the top right of the screen, and choose Account.

  3. The steps to hide your Netflix watch history are the same as with the mobile version: find the movie or show you want to delete from your watchlist and select the circle with the line through it.

If you want to remove an entire series, select Hide series? after choosing the circle.

You can also scroll to the bottom of your Netflix history and select Hide all.

Now, as you browse through Netflix, the deleted items will no longer appear in your “continue watching” queue. However, Netflix will still use this information in its recommendation algorithms, so you might still receive recommendations based on watching a partial show or movie.

Change Netflix Profiles

Another way to deal with the "continue watching" list on Netflix is to keep your viewing habits separated within different profiles. If you want to rewatch a series, for example, or your roommate wants to watch a movie you've already seen, you can build a separate profile to make a fresh "continue watching" list.

You can have up to five profiles on a single account. Learn how to create a new Netflix profile if you need help.

If you want to completely remove a profile from your account to make room for another or to instantly clear the watch history, you can delete a Netflix profile.
