How to Delete Apps on Chromebook

Free up some hard drive space or declutter your Chrome OS Launcher

What to Know

  • Navigate to the full Launcher screen and right-click on an app you want to uninstall. Select Uninstall or Remove from Chrome.
  • Or, in Chrome, go to the three-dot menu and select More Tools > Extensions. Select Remove under an item description.
  • Via the Play Store: From the Launcher, select Play Store > three-line menu > My apps & games > Installed. Click Uninstall to delete an app.

Delete Apps With Launcher

Chromebook apps can be uninstalled directly from the Launcher by following these steps:

  1. Select the Launcher icon, represented by a circle and usually located in the lower-left corner of the screen.

  2. A search bar appears, along with five app icons. Directly above the search bar, select the up arrow to display the full Launcher screen.

  3. Locate the app you want to uninstall and right-click its icon.

  4. Select Uninstall or Remove from Chrome.

  5. A confirmation message displays that asks if the app should be deleted. Select Uninstall to complete the process.

Delete Extensions Using Chrome

Add-ons and extensions can be uninstalled from the Google Chrome browser by following these steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the browser window, select the Customize and control Google Chrome (the three-dot) menu.

  3. Hover over More tools.

  4. Select Extensions.

    Instead of using the menu, enter chrome://extensions in the Chrome address bar.

  5. A list of installed extensions and apps displays in a new browser tab. To uninstall an app or extension, select Remove under the item description.

  6. A confirmation message appears, asking if the selected item should be deleted. Select Remove to complete the process.

  7. The app or extension is removed.

Delete Apps Using the Google Play Store

Chromebook also has the Google Play Store. It works just like it does on Android devices and can be used to manage apps installed on your Chromebook. To uninstall an app using the Google Play Store, do the following:

  1. Select the Launcher icon, represented by a circle and usually located in the lower-left corner of the screen.
