Use Default Stationery in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

Stationery Option Available in Older Versions

Select "Tools | Options..." from the menu in Outlook Express. Heinz Tschabitscher

Older versions of Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail, and Outlook Express allow you to define default stationery that is automatically applied when you start composing a new email.

However, Mail for Windows 10 does not include the option to use stationery. If you are using this version, the instructions below do not apply. If you do not see a Tools option in your version of Windows Live Mail or Windows Mail, you will not be able to use stationery.

Using stationery, not only you can send perfect Christmas greetings or birthday congratulations, but you can also beautify the everyday email in multiple ways. Why not do it by default with every message?

Use Default Stationery in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express

To make a stationery the default for new messages in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express:

  • Select Tools | Options... from the menu.
  • Go to the Compose tab.
  • Make sure Mail: is checked under Stationery.
  • Click the corresponding Select... button.
  • Choose the desired stationery and click OK.
  • Click OK again.

The default stationery is not used when you reply to a message in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express, but you can manually apply a stationery.

Use Different Stationery for a Message

Of course, you can still create messages that do not use any stationery even if you have defined default stationery.
