Be prepared for death and all that comes for you with these tips and tricks.

Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike unlike most of those you've seen before. It's also a lot harder. It's your job to take a band of heroes through a smattering of dungeons to ensure you can get them out alive. There's a lot of deaths, and they're usually pretty gruesome. But that's part of the fun!

If you're going to tackle Darkest Dungeon, you're going to need all the help you can get, especially if you're new to the genre.

Why not take some of these special tips and tricks along with you if you're going to jump into the game? You'll be thankful for it in the end!

Make sure you spend any cash you receive wisely.

Whenever you come into a lot of money at once in Darkest Dungeon, obviously your first reaction will likely be to spend it. But don't go and upgrade everyone at the same time. You'll want to level up the best you can, Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike unlike most of those you've seen before. It's also a lot harder. Learn the specialized roles available to you and your team

In roguelike games you can usually look to the same types of roles for your characters: tank, healer, support, and damage dealer. Tanks obviously will protect your team while healers keep everyone from dying, while support members use buffs and other spells to aid in healing or augmenting play, while damage dealers obviously specialize in doing just that.

Make sure you're opting to use the right characters at the right time to ensure you've got a varied set of party members and you just might cut down on the amount of deaths you rack up.

Level up specific locations before others

Don't just go through and spend all your money on random stuff. Don't waste it, as we stated earlier in the guide. For your first dozen heroes or so, you might want to upgrade your Tavern and Stage Coach so you can have enough space for all the team members you need. You'll also need the Blacksmith and Guild, so expand them when able as well.

With these tips you may well be on your way to getting through Darkest Dungeon alive -- at least, once or twice anyway. I can't say how you'll do later on, but these should make for a good enough start. Come back soon for a guide to some of the character classes so you can get really in-depth.
