WhatsApp Broadcast Lists are completely different from the WhatsApp Group Chat feature which allows multiple users to communicate with each other within the one chat conversation. The Broadcast WhatsApp Meaning and How It’s Different While broadcast is often used to refer to audio and video livestreaming, like on Mixer and Twitch, the word within this context simply implies that you’ll be sending a single message to numerous people at the same time. Creating a Broadcast List on WhatsApp will not share your location with anyone. Nor will it activate your smartphone’s microphone or camera. Creating a WhatsApp Broadcast List WhatsApp allows for the creation of as many Broadcast Lists as you like, however it does place a limit of 256 contacts within each list. Here’s how to create a WhatsApp Broadcast List. Open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. Tap Chats. On iPhone, tap Broadcast Lists. On Android, tap More Options. On iPhone, tap New List. On Android, tap New Broadcast. Select the contacts you want to add to your WhatsApp Broadcast List. If you have yet to add contacts to WhatsApp, make sure you do that first. If you have a lot of contacts, you can search for who you need by name by using the Search bar at the top of the screen. Tap Create. Your Broadcast List will now be created. You will be prompted to type your first message but, if you’re not ready to send a message just yet, you can tap the back button to return to your Broadcast Lists page to create a new list or edit this one. How to Edit Your WhatsApp Broadcast List Once you create a Broadcast List in WhatsApp, it will save as a list for you to use at any time in the future. You can give it a name, add contacts to it, or even delete it if you like. Renaming Your WhatsApp Broadcast List Once created, you can give your list a name and change it as many times as you like. The contacts on your WhatsApp Broadcast List will not be able to see what the list is called. Here’s how to change the name of your Broadcast List on WhatsApp. Tap the info icon or link to the left of the Broadcast List you want to edit. Tap the field that says List name to enter a custom name for your WhatsApp Broadcast List. Tap Enter on your keyboard to confirm the change. How to Add Contacts to a Broadcast List on WhatsApp If you’ve forgotten to add someone to a Broadcast List, you can add them afterwards at any time. You can also remove people if you so choose. To add or remove contacts on iPhone, simply tap Edit list and select or deselect contact names. If you’re using an Android smartphone, tap Add Recipient to add contacts to the list. To remove a contact on Android, perform a long tap on their name and then tap Remove from the popup menu. How to Broadcast Messages to Your WhatsApp Broadcast List Sending a WhatsApp broadcast to your Broadcast List is fairly straightforward and works in pretty much the same was as sending a regular message to a single contact. A contact will only receive your message if they’ve added you as a contact as well. You can’t broadcast messages to complete strangers. All you need to do is tap on your WhatsApp Broadcast List name, type your message, and tap the send icon. Each contact in a Broadcast List will receive your message in isolation. They will be unaware that the message was also sent to other people and won’t be able to tell that you’ve added them to a list so it’s best to write each message as if you’re talking to an individual rather than a group. Deleting a WhatsApp Broadcast List Deleting a Broadcast List on WhatsApp can be done whenever you like and only takes a few seconds. Be careful though as once the list is deleted, you won’t be able to get it back. Deleting a Broadcast List will not delete or unsend any WhatsApp Broadcast messages that you’ve sent to your contacts. To do this, you’ll need to manually delete the chat messages as you would in a regular WhatsApp chat conversation. Here’s how you can remove a Broadcast List from your WhatsApp account. To delete a list on iPhone, all you have to do is swipe left on its name. To do the same on Android, perform a long tap on the list name and tap Delete broadcast list > Delete.
