You can convert a PowerPoint into one or more picture files to save each slide as an image. When you do this, the PowerPoint can be viewed with any image viewer by opening each slide as a photo instead of a presentation slide.

Exporting PowerPoint slides to images is really easy because all you have to do is select an image format from the Save As option. You can save just one slide to an image (i.e., extract the slide from the PowerPoint) or make several images by saving each individual slide to a different image file.

Tip: Some file converter programs can convert PPTX and PPT files to image files, too, without you having to run the PowerPoint program.

Choose an Image Format for the Converted PowerPoint Slides

To save PowerPoint Slides as images, choose an image file format.

With your PowerPoint file open, save it to the PPTX or PPT format to make sure you can always return to it should you need to make changes.

  1. Click the slide you want to save to an image.
    1. If you want to convert all the slides to images, just click a random slide — it doesn't matter which one you select.
  2. Save the PowerPoint file to a different format.
    1. In PowerPoint 2016, 2013, and 2010, go to File Save As. For 2007, click the Office button and then click Save As.
    2. Note: The PowerPoint version available as part of Office 365 works in the same way as the versions mentioned above.
  3. Create a name for the file.
  4. Choose a save location.
  5. Click the drop-down next to Save as type.
  6. Pick an image format, such as PNG or JPG.
    1. If the format you want your slideshow images to be in isn't listed, save as PNG or JPG and then run the converted files through an image converter later.
  7. Click Save.

Note PowerPoint Online works differently than the desktop version of the program. To extract the slides from a PowerPoint file online, go to File Download As Download as Images. You'll be prompted to download a ZIP of all the slides saved as separate JPG images.

Save the PowerPoint Slides to One or More Image Files

You can save one or all of your PowerPoint slides as images.

Once you've selected your save options, you'll be asked to specify whether you want to export to a picture just the current slide or all slides in the presentation.

For example, in PowerPoint 2016, if you save the PowerPoint file to PNG, you can choose Just This One to save the slide you last selected to the PNG format.

If you convert more than one PowerPoint slide to separate image files, a new folder is created in the destination folder that goes by the same name as the presentation. If you haven't yet saved the PowerPoint file, you can find your exported slide images in a folder with a default name, like Presentation1.

Converting just a single PowerPoint slide to an image will save the photo with the name you chose in Step 3 above, in the folder you selected in Step 4.
