How to Make an Xbox Account on an Xbox One Console

Xbox accounts are a necessity for playing video games on Xbox consoles such as the Xbox One. These free online accounts are used to track progress on Xbox titles played, connect with gamer friends, and back up all data to the cloud for use on other devices or when upgrading to a new Xbox console.

If you’ve just bought your very first Xbox console, you are automatically guided through the account creation process during setup.

One of the easiest ways to create an Xbox account is on the Xbox One console. You can do it in a few easy steps.

1. Press the Xbox logo button on your Xbox controller to open the Guide.

2. Scroll to the Sign in pane.

3. Highlight Add new and press A on your controller.

4. A keyboard will automatically appear on screen. Press B on your controller to remove it.

5. Highlight Get a new email and press A to begin the account creation process.

   If you are creating an Xbox account for a child, enter their real age, not your own, so that you can manage their settings and content restrictions in the Xbox Family settings. You will be unable to change an adult account to a child account once it is created.

   You don’t need to create Xbox One accounts for each console. The one Xbox account can be used on multiple Xbox consoles and even in Xbox games on the Nintendo Switch and on the Xbox apps on Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices.

How to Make an Xbox Account on the Web

In addition to creating Xbox accounts on an Xbox console, you can also create and manage an account on the official Xbox website. This method can be easier as you’ll be able to enter information with a keyboard and mouse on your computer as opposed to an Xbox controller. You can also do this before setting up your new Xbox console so that, once you do, you can quickly sign into it with your new account.

Here’s how to create an Xbox account on the Xbox website.

1. Open your preferred web browser and go to the official Xbox website.

2. Click the empty profile icon in the top-right corner.

3. Click Create one.

4. Enter your email address.

   If you don’t have an email address, click Create a new email address to sign up for a free Outlook email. You can also click Use a phone number instead to connect your phone number to your new Xbox account in place of an email.

5. Click Next.

6. Enter a password for your Xbox account.

   For safety and security reasons, make a strong password that's unique to this account and be sure to use a combination of upper and lowercase characters and numbers.

7. Enter your first and last name.

   Once your account is created, you’ll be able to hide your name within the account settings on the Xbox console.

8. Click Next.

9. Select your country or region from the drop-down menu and enter your birth date.

10. Click Next.

11. You will now be sent a confirmation email to the email address you provided. Enter the code in the email and click Next.

12. Complete the security question and click Next.

13. Click I Accept. Your Xbox account will now be created and you’ll automatically be logged in on the website.

    You can now use your Xbox account’s login information to log in on your Xbox console and any of the Xbox apps.

    An Xbox account is also a Microsoft account so you can also use it to log into other Microsoft service such as Skype and Office, etc.

Do You Need a New Xbox Account

You may not need to make a new account for the following reasons:

• You can edit almost all information associated with your Xbox account including your name and Gamertag. You don’t need to make a new account to change either.
• Xbox accounts can be used on multiple consoles and devices. The same Xbox account you used on the Xbox 360 can still be used on the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X consoles. There’s no need to make a new account every time you buy a new console.

You can make as many new Xbox accounts as you want, but it’s important to remember that game progress cannot be transferred between Xbox accounts.

Do I Need to Create Xbox Live Accounts to Play Games?

If you’re logged into your Xbox console and you’re wondering how to make an Xbox Live account after seeing references to it, you don’t need to worry. A Microsoft Xbox Live account is simply another name for an Xbox account so you already have one.
