How to Combine Photos on iPhone

  • Download the Shortcuts app, then go to your device's Settings > Shortcuts and turn on Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.
  • Visit the Combine Images shortcut page to open it in Shortcuts, then scroll down to tap Add Untrusted Shortcut.
  • Tap My Shortcuts at the bottom > Combine Images > OK > select photos > Add > choose options > Done.

Photos for iOS doesn't have a built-in feature for combining photos into one, but there's another iOS app you can use to get around it. It's called Shortcuts, and if your iPhone is running on iOS 12 or later, you may already have it installed on your device.

How to Use Shortcuts to Combine Photos

Shortcuts is one of Apple's official iOS apps that allows you to perform tasks and automate them, including combining photos. If you don't currently have the Shortcuts app on your iPhone, you need to download it from the App store to follow these instructions.

  1. To get the Combine Images shortcut, you have to allow shared shortcuts.

    Go to your iPhone's Settings and tap Shortcuts.

  2. Tap to toggle on Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.

    Note

    If you're unable to do this, you'll have to run a shortcut first. Go to the Shortcuts app and select a shortcut to run quickly. Then repeat steps 1 and 2.

  3. Tap Allow and enter your passcode to confirm.

  4. Navigate to the Combine Images shortcut web page to automatically open it in the Shortcuts app.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap Add Untrusted Shortcut.

  6. Tap My Shortcuts in the bottom menu.

  7. Tap the newly added Combine Images shortcut followed by OK to run it.

  8. Tap to select the photos you want to combine. A blue checkmark will appear in the bottom right of every photo you've selected.

  9. Tap Add in the top right corner.

  10. Select the order in which you want the photos to appear by tapping Chronological or Reverse Chronological.

  11. Customize the image spacing by entering a number and tapping Done. If you don't want space between the images, leave it at 0.

  12. Choose how you want the photos to be displayed by selecting one of the following display options:

    • combine images horizontally
    • combine images vertically
    • combine images in a grid

  13. Your combined photos will be previewed. Tap Done in the top left.

  14. Finish the process by selecting any of the following options:

    • save to camera roll and delete source
    • save to camera
    • edit
  15. If you want to combine photos, open the Shortcuts app and tap the Combine Images shortcut to select your photos and follow steps 8 through 14 above.

How to Combine Photos With Pic Stitch

Pic Stitch is a free third-party app that you can use to create photo and video collages. It's a great alternative if you'd prefer not to use the Shortcuts app method discussed above.

  1. Download the Pic Stitch app from the App Store.

  2. Select a photo layout style for your combined photos. You can switch between the Classic, Fancy, and Trending tabs to find different types.

  3. Tap any section of the layout to prepare to add a photo to it.

    Note

    If this is your first time using the app, tap Allow Access to All Photos to give the app permission to access your photos.

  4. Tap the photos you want to add and then tap Done in the top right.

  5. Drag and drop a photo into its appropriate frame in the combined photo layout.

    Tip

    You can enhance or edit each photo before it's added to the frame. Tap Done in the top right when you're finished editing.

  6. Repeat step five for the remaining photos and frames. You can adjust which part of the photo is shown in the frame by dragging the photo around.

  7. Tap Save in the bottom menu to save it to your camera roll or share it directly to social media.
