Cisco Systems is a multinational company that produces computer networking products and services. The Linksys brand of consumer networking products is an owned subsidiary of Cisco Systems. Cisco offers a range of training, IT certifications and testing programs on its website, in addition, to live training events in various cities each year. These programs are intended to recognize knowledge and experience in computer networking, particularly in routing and switching. Students and professionals may seek to take certifications from Cisco Systems to improve their skills and employability.

Cisco Network Certifications

Cisco's network certification program is recognized worldwide. Popular Cisco certifications are available at all skill levels and include:

  • Entry level training and certifications are designed to be a starting point for people who are just beginning a career as a networking profession. Among the entry-level certifications available are CCENT and CCT, which have no prerequisites. Cisco provides suggested study material online. To be certified, an individual must pass an examination.
  • Associate or midlevel training and certifications provide a strong foundation in either network design (CCDA certifications) or network installation, operations and troubleshooting (CCNA certifications). Currently, there are 10 levels of specialization including CCNA Cloud, CCNA Data Center, CCNA Security, CCDA, and CCNA Routing and Switching, among others. Each certification has different prerequisite requirements, although some don't require prerequisites. Cisco provides suggested study material, which is followed by an examination.
  • Professional training and certifications represent advanced skills in networking. As with the Associate certifications, several certifications are offered in different technical skills. Certifications include CCNP Collaboration, CCNP Service Provider, CCNP Cloud, CCNP Security and others. As with the other levels of certification, the Cisco website publishes recommended training materials, and the individual must pass an examination for certification.
