How to Check Other Email Accounts Through Yahoo! Mail

Many people have more than one email address; in fact, many have addresses through more than one email provider. Checking all of them individually can be inconvenient and time-consuming.

If you're among those people and you prefer Yahoo! email's interface, you can check other POP3 email accounts (your work mail, for example) through Yahoo! email. Specifically, Yahoo! mail supports synchronization with email addresses through only the following providers:

  • Gmail
  • Outlook.com
  • AOL.com
  • Other Yahoo! Mail addresses

Check All Your Email Through Yahoo! Mail (Full-Featured Version)

If you're using the latest, full-featured version of Yahoo! Mail and you'd like to sync all your mail and folders from other providers here in Yahoo! Mail:

  1. Log into your Yahoo! email account.
  2. Hover over or click the Settings gear icon in Yahoo! Mail.
  3. Open the Settings section.
  4. Select Accounts.
  5. Click on Add another mailbox.

Now you'll tell Yahoo! email what kind of account you'd like to connect to.

To add a Gmail or Google Apps account:

  1. Select Google.
  2. Type your full Gmail or Google Apps email address under Email address.
  3. Click Add mailbox.
  4. Sign in to Google and click Allow to grant Yahoo! Mail access to your Google account.
  5. Optionally:
    • Edit the name that appears when you send messages from the account under Your name.
    • Give the new account a name under Description.
  6. Click Done.

To add an Outlook.com (formerly Windows Live Hotmail or MSN Hotmail) account:

  1. Make sure you are signed in to the Outlook.com account you want to add to Yahoo! Mail. To check, open Outlook.com in a different browser tab.
  2. Click Outlook.
  3. Enter your full Outlook.com address under Email address.
  4. Click Add mailbox.
  5. Click Yes to allow Yahoo! Mail access to your Outlook.com account.

To add an AOL account:

  1. Select AOL.
  2. Type the AOL email address you want to access through Yahoo! Mail under Email address.
  3. Click Add mailbox.
  4. Log in to AOL Mail and click Continue to give Yahoo! Mail access to your account.
  5. Optionally:
    • Specify the name that will appear when you send messages from your AOL account through Yahoo! Mail under Your name.
    • Give the new account a name under Description.
  6. Click Done.

Check Other Email Accounts With Yahoo! Mail (Basic Version)

If you're using the older, basic version of Yahoo! Mail, you can send email through another provider, but you can't receive it. Here's how to configure it to send using one of your other email addresses:

  1. Log into Yahoo! Mail.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen, select Options from the drop-down list.
  3. Click Go.
  4. Click on Mail Accounts under Advanced Options.
  5. Follow the Add or edit an account link.
  6. Click +Send-only Address.
  7. Give the account a descriptive name next to Account description.
  8. Enter the email address from which you'd like to send next to Email address.
  9. Enter your name next to Name.
  10. Next to Reply-to address, enter the email address to which you'd like replies sent.
  11. Click Save.
  12. Log into the email address you've just added to Yahoo! Mail and look for a message with this subject line: "Please verify your email address." (Be sure to check your spam folder, too.)
  13. Click the link in the email.
  14. You'll come to the login page for Yahoo! Mail. Log in, then click Verify.

Remember that the basic version of Yahoo! Mail will allow you to send email from a non-Yahoo address, but not to receive it. For full functionality, you need to switch to the newer, full-featured version.

How to Switch to the Most Recent Version of Yahoo! Mail

It's a simple process:

  1. Log into Yahoo! Mail.
  2. Click on Switch to the newest Yahoo Mail in the upper right corner.
  3. Your screen will update automatically.

Sending and Retrieving Email From Other Accounts

Now that you're all set up, you can send and receive email through whatever accounts you've entered in the steps above. To send mail using a particular account:

  1. Click Compose at the top of the left-hand column.
  2. At the top of the Compose window, click the down arrow next to From.
  3. Choose the account from which you'd like to send your email.
  4. Write your email and click Send.

To see mail you've received from another account, look for its name in the navigation column on the left. You'll find the number of emails you've received through that account in parentheses next to the account name. Just click to view.
