How to Charge Oculus Quest/Quest 2 Controllers

Keep your VR controllers charged up and ready to play

What to Know

  • The Oculus Quest and Quest 2 use one AA battery per controller.
  • To avoid downtime, buy two pairs of rechargeable AA batteries and leave one on the charger.
  • The optional Oculus charging station allows you to keep the controllers charged at all times without removing the batteries.

This article explains how to charge Oculus Quest and Quest 2 controllers, including how to use the optional charging station.

How to Charge Oculus Quest and Quest 2 Controllers

The controllers that come with the Oculus Quest and Quest 2 may look like they don’t have removable battery compartments, but they do. If you look carefully, you’ll find a small eject icon molded into the plastic of each grip, roughly opposite from the location of the trigger button. That’s the battery compartment cover, and there’s a single AA battery hidden inside. The batteries that come with these controllers are alkaline, and you can’t recharge them.

To charge Oculus Quest and Quest 2 controllers, you need to replace the included alkaline batteries with rechargeable batteries. You then need to charge those batteries when they run out of power, using a compatible battery charger. For the sake of convenience, you may want to buy four batteries instead of two and leave two of them on the charger, so they’re always ready.

Here’s how to charge your Oculus Quest controllers:

  1. Hold an Oculus controller in either one or both hands, with the small eject symbol facing up and away from you.
