How to Change Waze Voices

New day, new voice – no problem!

If you've been using Waze for quite a while, you might be surprised to learn you can change the Waze voice that speaks to you, notifying you of upcoming turns and possible road hazards.

Whether you have an Android or iOS device, follow the instructions below to add a bit of change to your daily commute. If you're feeling really adventures, you can even record your own voice for turn-by-turn directions.

How to Select New Waze Voices

If you merely want to hear a new voice during your commutes, there's a quick way to change things up a bit. The list of available voices continually changes so you can drive along to celebrity voices or quirky characters.

  1. Open the Waze app on your device.

  2. In the bottom center of the screen select the Speaker icon.

  3. Tap the Voice directions option; it will list the currently selected Waze voice.

  4. You'll now be presented with a list of available Waze voices. Merely tap your desired selection to choose it. Some voices will include street names in their turn-by-turn directions, while others will not.

    Be sure to check out the available Waze voices from time to time as the company always makes different options available. Past celebrity voices for Waze have included Liam Neeson and Mr. T.

  5. Tap the X in the upper right-hand corner to return to the map.

How to Create Your Own Waze Voices

You can record your own voice to hear yourself give directions while driving. The process is super simple and can be a ton of fun. You can create custom creations and even share them with your friends.

  1. Open the Waze app on your device.

  2. In the bottom center of the screen select the Speaker icon.

  3. Tap the Voice directions option.

  4. At the top of the screen, select the Record new voice option.

  5. Waze will remind you to record your voice in a clear manner so you can understand yourself when driving. Tap the Got it button to continue.

    Your phone may ask if you wish to give Waze access to the microphone; if it does, be sure to tap the Allow option.

  6. Tap the Name your voice option at the top of the screen. Enter your name or a phrase to save your new digital creation, then tap Done.

  7. A list of different phrases will be shown. Tap each phrase you'd like to record a custom voice for when driving. To begin recording, tap the red dot. Once you have finished recording, tap the grey square.

    For the best experience, record all phrases; otherwise, the default voice will play for any unrecorded phrases.

  8. Once you've finished recording all of your voices, tap Save in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

    If you want to hear your recording played back, tap the blue play icon. Once satisfied, hit the Save button.

  9. Tap the X in the upper right-hand corner to return to the map.
