How to Rename Your iPad If you want to change the name of your iPad, open up the Settings app. Don't worry; it only takes a few taps to find the setting to make the change. Open the Settings app on your iPad. In Settings, tap General. Tap About. In the About settings, tap Name. In the text box provided, tap the delete key on the on-screen keyboard or tap the X in the text field to clear it out. Now enter the name you want to use for your iPad. When you're done, tap About to save the name change and see it in the Name field on the About page. You don't have to tap About if you're not worried about seeing the change in action. You can close out of settings, knowing that the iPad will automatically save the change you've made. Why Change the Name of Your iPad There are many reasons you may need to change your iPad, but the most compelling is because there are multiple iPads in your household or if you tend to send and receive files through the AirDrop app often. iPads usually have a name based on your Apple ID (think JerriLynn's iPad), but if you have more than one iPad (or the iPad's name is something generic), it can be kind of confusing to find the right one.
