Initially, the language Yahoo Mail uses for your account interface is determined by your location when you open the account. If you live in the U.S., the default language is English, so all the buttons, menu options, and other Yahoo Mail interface elements are in English.

If you are bilingual, you may prefer to use the Yahoo Mail interface in a language different from the default. In your account settings, Yahoo Mail gives you more than 80 languages and variations of languages to pick from. There, you can pick your favorite language or language variant — such as Australian English — for the Yahoo Mail interface.

Change the Interface Language of Yahoo Mail

To pick the language used for your Yahoo Mail account interface, log in to your Yahoo Mail account. Then:

  1. Click your name or image at the top of the inbox screen to open a menu.
  2. Select Account Info.
  3. Choose Preferences in the left panel.
  4. Click the small arrow next to the current language in the Language section.
  5. Click one of the 80 languages or language variations from the drop-down menu.
  6. Confirm that the language or language variant you prefer to use as the user interface language for Yahoo Mail is listed in the Languages section.

In the blink of an eye, all the menus, folder names, and navigation options change to the language you chose. In your inbox, the names of folders and menus and the contents of some advertisements change to the newly chosen language. However, emails that were sent to you in the original language are not translated; they remain untouched. This change applies only to the Yahoo Mail interface.
