Initially, your location when you open the account determines the language Yahoo Mail uses for your account interface. For example, if you live in the United States, the default language is English. As a result, all the buttons, menu options, and other Yahoo Mail interface elements are in English.

English is by far the only option available to you, though. Yahoo Mail supports more than 80 languages and variations of languages to select as alternatives.

Yahoo Mail also supports variants of a language — e.g., U.S. English vs. Australian English.

Change the Interface Language of Yahoo Mail

To change the language used for your Yahoo Mail account interface, log in to your Yahoo account. Then:

  1. Click your name or image at the top of the inbox screen to open a menu.
  2. Select Account Info > Preferences > Language.
  3. Select a language.
  4. Tap or click Save.

All the menus, folder names, and navigation options change to the language you chose. In your inbox, the names of folders and menus and the contents of some advertisements change to the newly chosen language. However, emails that were sent to you in the original language are not translated; they remain untouched. The language change applies only to the Yahoo Mail interface.
