The cover photo is the large image that sits above and behind your profile photo. The cover photo on Facebook can be almost anything you want it to be. If it's your personal profile that you're updating, it might be a picture of your family, friends, house, car, favorite quote, etc. For a business Facebook page, you might customize the cover photo to be of your product, the front of your store, or a group shot of your employees. Whatever you choose as your new Facebook cover photo, follow the steps below to update your profile with the new image. You can change your Facebook cover photo from a computer or from your phone or tablet, but the steps are different depending on the device you're using. We'll note those differences below. How to Update Your Cover Photo on Facebook You're given several options when it comes to changing your cover photo on Facebook. Follow these directions to access the cover photo settings: Open Facebook on your computer and select your name to get to your profile page. Scroll to the very top of the page to see the entire cover photo area. Hover your mouse over the cover photo section and select Update Cover Photo. Choose an appropriate option: Select Photo lets you pick an existing image from your Facebook page.Select Artwork provides a selection of images from Facebook that you can use as the cover photo, like nature shots.Create a Collage is similar to the first option where you can pick existing photos, but instead of just one, you can choose several to create a Facebook cover photo collage.Upload Photo is for just that: select a photo from your computer that you want as the cover photo.Reposition lets you change how the existing cover photo looks. You might do this if it's not showing the whole image or you want to refocus on a different part of the photo.Remove is for deleting the Facebook cover photo. Follow the directions for the option you chose. For example, if you picked Select Photo, choose an image you've already uploaded. Drag the cover photo to position it how you want. Select Save Changes to submit the cover photo change. If it's a Facebook Page you're updating, hover your mouse over the cover photo area and select Change Cover. There are different options for pages, such as Create Cover Area, Choose From Videos, and Upload Video. How to Update Your Cover Photo via the Facebook App Follow these steps to change your cover photo from the Facebook mobile app: These screenshots apply to iPad only, but the Facebook app works very similarly on all devices, so the written instructions should get you in the same general location no matter what phone or tablet you're using. Select Menu from the bottom of the app, or the three-lined menu button from the top right on some devices. Choose your name at the top. Tap Edit from the bottom of the cover photo area. It's represented by a camera icon on some devices. Select one of these options to change the cover photo: Upload Photo to pick an image from your phone or tablet that you want to use as the Facebook cover photo.Select Photo on Facebook to make a previously uploaded image the cover photo. This might be called Select from album on some devices. Android devices have some additional options, including Create Cover Collage and Select Artwork. On Facebook Lite, your options are Take a Photo and Upload a Photo. Locate and select the image you want to use for your Facebook cover photo. Tips for Changing Your Facebook Cover Photo As you can see above, changing the cover photo is easy. What you'll probably find more difficult is choosing a great cover photo for your Facebook profile. You don't want to select just anything from your page or a random photo from your computer. Beyond the photo having a purpose for your specific page, it should also fit correctly on the screen. Follow these tips to make the best cover photo for your Facebook page, but also remember that you're restricted in some ways on what you can do. The cover photo must be 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall, at minimum. Ideally, it should be 851 x 315 pixels. To ensure fast load time, make the image less than 100 KB.
