How Do I Adjust the Brightness on My Amazon Echo?

You can adjust the brightness on your Echo Dot clock with voice commands or through the Alexa app on your phone. When you use a voice command, you can set the brightness using a numerical value or turn the display off entirely. When you use the app, you can set the brightness with a slider, and there's also an adaptive brightness setting.

Here are some voice commands you can use to adjust the brightness of the clock on your Echo Dot:

  • "Set brightness to one."
  • "Change brightness to minimum."
  • "Set brightness to ten."
  • "Change the brightness to maximum."

These commands only work with the Echo Dot with a clock. If you have an Echo with a screen, like Echo Show, you need to set the brightness using the touchscreen controls.

Here’s how to change the clock brightness on Echo Dot using the Alexa app:

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone.

  2. Tap Devices.

  3. Tap Echo & Alexa.

  4. Tap the Echo Dot with Clock you want to adjust.

How Do I Dim My Alexa Clock?

If you want to dim your Echo Dot clock display quickly, you can use the Alexa voice command “Alexa, change brightness to minimum.” When you use that command, the clock display will immediately dim to its lowest possible brightness level.

If you want the clock to dim automatically, then you can turn on the Adaptive Brightness feature in your Alexa app. This feature causes the clock on your Echo to dim automatically based on the ambient light in the room. When you turn out the lights to go to bed, the clock will automatically dim. Then when the sun comes up in the morning, or when you turn on the lights, the brightness will increase.

You access the Adaptive Brightness feature through the Alexa app on the same screen you use to manually adjust the clock brightness, as described in the previous section. If you want to activate this feature, toggle on Adaptive Brightness. If you don’t want to use it anymore, then switch the toggle off.

How Do I Change the Clock Display on Echo?

The clock display that’s built into some Echo Dots is pretty basic. It’s an LED display that can’t show anything more complicated than a few numbers or letters at a time, but you can switch it between 12- and 24-hour formats.

If you want to change the way that the clock display on your Echo shows the time, use one of these commands:

  • “Change to 24-hour clock format.”
  • “Change to 12-hour clock format.”

Which Echo Dots Have a Clock Display?

The basic Echo Dot doesn’t have a clock display or any display at all. Amazon refers to the version that does include a clock display as the Echo Dot with Clock. This option was first made available in the third-generation Echo Dot, and the spherical fourth-generation Echo Dot also has a version that includes a clock display. Aside from the third and fourth-generation Echo Dots, the Echo Show and Echo Spot both have LED screens capable of displaying the time.
