How to Change Your Profile Picture, Name, and Nickname in Apple Music

Customize your page in the music streaming service

When Apple Music premiered, it included a social feature called Connect, which let fans and their favorite bands interact. To do this, users could create a customizable profile like a Twitter or Instagram account so that their friends could find them and people could see whom they were talking to.

Unfortunately, Apple removed Connect from Apple Music at the end of 2018. But it still contains a social element that you can use to check out what your friends are listening to and find more tunes for your own library.

These instructions apply to devices running iOS 11 and later.

How to Update Your Apple Music Profile

Your profile is visible and accessible on most pages in Apple Music. Follow these steps to set up and customize it.

  1. Open the Music app.

  2. Tap the Account button in the upper-left corner of the screen. It's the silhouette of a head with a circle around it.

If you don't see the button, tap one of the tabs at the bottom of the screen such as For You or My Music.

  3. Select See What Friends Are Listening To.

  4. Tap Get Started.

  5. On the next screen, you'll create your profile. Tap the camera icon to take a profile picture or choose one from your Camera Roll.

Edit your name or nickname by selecting the field and typing in a custom name. If you don't want your full name to appear, you can shorten it to just your first name or any nickname you want. The official "@nickname" can be the same as your name or different.

Tap Continue to Find Contacts to move on.

The nickname can't include spaces, but you can put in an underscore in place of one.

  6. The next screen shows both friends who are currently sharing their info on Apple Music and ones who are on the platform but don't have profiles.

Tap Follow to share music with your friends (and see theirs), or tap Invite to ask other contacts to create profiles of their own.

    Tap Next to continue.

    Tap Next to continue.

  8. If you've created playlists on Apple Music, the next page will let you share them with your friends by tapping the button to the left.

    Select Next.

  9. Finally, you can decide whether to receive notifications when you get new followers or when artists you like have new music.

Tap Done to finish your profile.
