CEDIA EXPO 2012 Wrap-Up Special

Home Theater Product and Technology Highlights

The annual CEDIA EXPO was held for the second consecutive year at the Indiana Convention Center, and featured a host of both domestic and international exhibitors showcasing the latest home theater product innovations for dealers, installers, press, and industry analysts.

According to information provided by the CEDIA trade organization, 16,900 attendees saw over 80 new home technology products, as well as over 450 exhibitors from 71 countries. Also, 175 training courses were conducted as part of the annual trade show. It is estimated that 15% of the attendees were first timers.

Sony Officially Announces 84-inch 4K LCD TV

Although LG first exhibited an 84-inch 4K TV prototype back at the last CES, and was the first out the gate with a coming availability announcement, it was Sony that stole the 4K TV spotlight at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO, with its XBR-84X900 4K TV. 

SIM2 Intros 4K DLP Video Projector at CEDIA 2012

4K at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO wasn't limited t TV's, 4K video projectors were also on display, and the Sim2 CINEMAQUATTRO was probably the most impressive, as well as the most expensive. 

JVC Intros 2nd Generation e-Shift 4K Projectors

JVC first introduced their take on 4K with its e-Shift technology at last year's CEDIA EXPO. This year they were onhand with their second generation video projectors utilizing e-Shift 4K technology. 

Sony Announces New TVs, Projector, and AV Receivers for 2012 - 2013

Although 4K garnered the spotlight at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO, there were plenty of other product announcements, including Sony's unveiling of its upcoming XBR-HX950 series LED/LCD TVs, new mid-range VPL-HW50ES 3D video projector, and two innovative home theater receivers (STR-DA2800ES, STR-DA5800ES) that incorporate home automation control capabilities. 

Epson Intros New Home Theater Projectors at CEDIA 2012

Epson is definitely one of the mainstays at CEDIA EXPOs and this year they didn't disappoint with their new PowerLight Home and ProCinema video projector product lines that are afforable and include both 3D on all the presented models, and the option of wireless HDMI connectivity on two of its "e" branded models. 

Mitsubishi Unveils Two 3D Video Projectors at CEDIA 2012

While the CEDIA EXPO has a tendency to emphasize the high-end of the home theater product market, there are still many exhibitors showing off products to bring the mainstream consumer into the home theater experience. On example is Mitsubishi, which brought its new affordable HC7900DW and HC8000D 3D DLP video projectors that offer some interesting features. 

Integra to Debut New Flagship Home Theater Receiver at CEDIA 2012

Video is definitely not the only thing featured at the CEDIA EXPO. Audio products, such as Home Theater Receivers, are widely shown. Integra was on hand with its latest flaghship home theater receiver that does just about everything except pop the popcorn. 

Pro Audio Technology Presents Smaller Room Speaker Solutions at CEDIA 2012

Since CEDIA is an organization that supports custom install home theater dealers, small companies that cater to custom install market come to the CEDIA EXPO to show off their new products. One company that was on hand was Pro Audio Technology, a company that emphasis more professional products, but showed its new slimline speakers and subwoofer that give home theater installers more flexibility when faced with smaller home theater rooms.

Proficient Audio Offers Up Its Own Sound Bar at CEDIA 2012

When sound bars first appeared on the scene, higher-end manufacturers didn't really take notice, considering them too mass market for their customers. However, in the past year or so, even consumers willing to spend money on higher end home theater products see the sound bar and no-hassle way to get better sound from a TV without all the hassle of a home theater system. As a result, higher-end manufacturers have jump in to meet the demand with sound bars that actually sound good. The Proficient Audio MaxTV MT2 was just one of several impressive sound bars exhibited at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO. 

Yamaha Announces BD-A1020 Blu-ray Disc Player

It is hard to believe that Blu-ray has been with us five years already, but it has, and it is going strong. Several manufacturers had new Blu-ray Disc players on display at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO. 

DVDO Announces Cutting-Edge HDMI Switcher at CEDIA 2012

Although products such as TVs, video projectors, home theater receivers, and Blu-ray Disc players are the major components in home theater system, accessories, such as cables and switchers, and controls are needed to tie them all together. One accessory device that was on display at the 2012 CEDIA EXPO was DVDO's Quick6 HDMI Switcher.
