How Do I Cast Apple Music From iPhone to Chromecast?

The iOS Apple Music app doesn’t support Chromecast so there’s no way to natively send tracks from the app to a TV via Chromecast. One popular method people used to use to get around this limitation was to download a third-party app that could mirror their iPhone or iPad’s screen on their smart TV. Unfortunately, Apple has since updated iOS’s security and now audio from Apple Music won’t play when a device is being mirrored this way.

Currently the only way to send Apple Music audio from an iPad or iPhone via Chromecast is to use an app that can cast locally stored music files to a smart TV. While this does mean that you won’t be able to broadcast any streamed or live audio, you will be able to play albums or tracks you’ve downloaded for offline listening in the Apple Music app.

There are numerous free and paid iOS apps in the Apple App Store that claim to offer Chromecast music streaming to TVs but many of them no longer work as promised or require an expensive subscription plan to access the features you need.

One of the best apps for Chromecasting music to a TV that we’ve tested and will be using for this example is CastForHome.

CastForHome is free to download and use and doesn’t require signing up for any free trials or paid subscriptions.

CastForHome does place a daily limit on free casting via Chromecast though we used it for two hours with no issues. A one-off $19.99 payment removes this unspecified restriction and the in-app ads.

  1. Download all of the Apple Music songs that you want to listen to on your smart TV.

  2. Open CastForHome and tap OK.

  3. You’ll be shown a prompt to make a payment. Wait several seconds for the x icon to appear in the top-right corner and tap it.

You may be shown ads while using this app. Wait a few seconds for the Close option to appear and tap it.

  4. Tap Connected Device.

If you experience sound coming out of the speakers on both your iPhone and TV, simply turn the volume down on your iPhone.

  9. To stop casting Apple Music to your TV, tap the Cast icon in the top-right corner.

  10. Tap Stop casting.
