Canon PIXMA iP8720 Printer Review

Canon ip8720 printer review

The Canon PIXMA iP8720 shows a very impressive photo printer that creates extremely high-quality prints on the best settings. And it's a versatile printer, allowing you to print at sizes between 4-by-6 inches and 13-by-19 inches.

Its print speeds are really nice for a printer that can create prints at the high quality this model can. And while its price is pretty steep for a consumer level printer, the performance levels of this model justify the price tag.

Ultimately, having the ability to create a 13-by-19-inch print is something that very few consumer-level printers can match. If you're an advanced photographer who has camera equipment that's capable of creating photos that are sharp enough to allow for 13-by-19-inch prints, the iP8720 will do your photos justice with its beautiful prints.

Print Quality

With its six inks, the PIXMA iP8720 does a tremendous job with creating vibrant color photos. It's also an outstanding printer for monochrome prints, thanks to the inclusion of a gray ink cartridge.

Photo print quality with this model looks best if you're using photo paper, but with the iP8720 you can create nice looking prints even on plain paper if that's all you have available.

The maximum print resolution for color prints is 9600x2400 dpi.

The iP8720 has decent printing speeds. It's not going to be the fastest printer on the market, but its speeds are pretty solid for a model that creates the quality of photo prints that this unit provides.

Because the Canon iP8720 has no memory card slot or LCD to allow for direct printing from the unit, it's important that Canon provided a Wi-Fi printing option with this photo printer, just for the sake of convenience. It was very easy to set up and use this unit, including making a Wi-Fi connection with the computer. You also can use Apple AirPrint or Google Cloud Print with the iP8720.

There's nothing special about the design of the Canon PIXMA iP8720, and you might not even recognize it as a printer at first glance. It has several compartments that unfold and open to creating an output print tray and a paper feed tray on the top. And there's only three indicator lights/buttons on the front of the printer. When compared to most consumer printers, which have several buttons and an LCD screen, the iP8720 has a vastly different look from its competitors.

Because the PIXMA iP8720 doesn't have a dedicated input paper tray, it's tough to store paper in the unit for long periods of time. Then again, because you'll be printing photos primarily with the iP8720, you may only want to feed a few sheets at a time.

There's no memory card slot, no touchscreen LCD, no flat-top glass, and no copy or scan functions with this model. You'll want to look elsewhere if you need those features. But if you want an extremely high-quality photo printer that can accept large sized paper, few models can match the impressive Canon PIXMA iP8720.
