  • Good selection of editing tools.

  • Affordable.

What We Don't Like
  • Can’t export or import text from other programs.

  • Not as sophisticated as some other graphic design programs.

PrintMaster Platinum bills itself as "the ultimate design toolkit" for creating photo greeting cards, family newsletters, scrapbook pages, calendars and much more. The software comes with more than 10,000 royalty-free images, improved text features that allow text to flow from one text box to another and to flow around images and clipart.

Apple Pages

What We Like
  • Works directly with Photos so you can create calendars from your own shots.

  • Can import many Word templates and text.

What We Don't Like
  • No premade calendar template.

  • Can be slow, even on current computers.

Pages, the word processor and page layout program that ships with every new Mac, is sleek software that integrates with Photos to give you plenty of calendar possibilities. Pages don't ship with a calendar template, but you can use it to make a calendar in a couple of ways:

  • Use the Table button to set up a calendar grid that is seven columns wide and then input the dates and other information manually.
  • Download a Calendar template. Pages open .doc files, so most Word templates open in the software.
