Although LG is primarily known for its LED/LCD and OLED TVs, it also offers a number of other home theater products, including a good selection of the Blu-ray Disc players. In fact, as a historical note, back in 2008, LG launched the very first Blu-ray Disc player with Netflix streaming capability, and the Network Blu-ray Disc player was born.

The three players LG's 2015 Blu-ray line include the BP255, BP350, and BP550

The first Blu-ray Disc player in the group is the LG BP255 is the entry-level player in the line. However, entry level does not mean it is not worthy of consideration. The BP255 offers quite a bit for the price, along with good performance. First off, it can play Blu-ray Discs (including BD-R/RE), DVDs (including most recordable DVD formats), and CDs (including CD-R/RW/MP3/DTS-CD). However, that is just the beginning.

The BP255 can also access content from connected USB flash and hard drives, as well as stream movies and TV shows from the internet via content sources, such as Netflix, HuluPlus, Amazon Instant Video, and more, as well as access to audio, still image, and video files stored on compatible network-connected devices (PC, Media Servers), via ethernet connection to an internet router. Also included is LG's Music Flow feature, which allows music streaming to LG's Music Flow speaker products (downloadable app required for operation).

The LG BP350 provides everything that the BP255 does, but adds Built-in Wifi for more convenient connection to the internet. NOTE: There is no Ethernet/LAN connection option provided on the BP350.

The LG BP550 steps it a little further with the addition of 3D Blu-ray Disc playback, as well as LG's Private Sound Mode, which allows convenient audio streaming of CD/DVD/Blu-ray Disc content to a compatible smartphone or tablet that enables listening via earphones or headphones.

Other Features common on all three players include DVD Upscaling (1080p), NTSC/PAL Conversion (for non-regioned coded DVDs), HDMI connectivity, and HDMI-CEC control capability.

Also, all three players can be controlled via the provided wireless remote, or via a compatible smartphone or tablet using the LG AV Remote App for compatible iOS and Android devices

What Is Not Included

On the other hand, it is important to note that none of the players provide in keeping with current trends and standards, component or composite video outputs. Also, none of the players feature a digital optical audio output (However, the BDP550 does provide a digital Coaxial audio output option) or analog audio outputs.

It is also important to note that none of the three Blu-ray Disc players discussed in the above group provide 4K Upscaling.
