The D70-F3 is hot off the presses for 2018. and strikes the perfect balance between stellar picture quality, good value and minimalist design. Its screen boasts Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 resolution, yielding a vivid, high-contrast picture with near plasma-like black levels. It also has a 120Hz effective refresh rate/Clear Action 240 technology to combat distortion of fast-moving images and action scenes in 720p high-definition resolution.

Like most TVs today, it features built-in Wi-Fi that enables access to a wide variety of apps, including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and more, via a slicker, revamped interface. It has a full-function remote control that’s intuitive to use right out of the box and supports devices such as Google Assistant and Amazon Echo, so you can control the TV using your voice. Overall, it has the features you need, and nothing you don’t.

Best Budget: VIZIO SmartCast D-series 24” Class Full HD 1080p LED Smart TV

Just because you’re on a tight budget, don’t fall into the trap of thinking you must sacrifice quality. This is where Amazon’s certified refurbished products make so much sense. It delivers solid picture quality and decent sound, all in a fairly subtle package. It’s one of the smaller TVs on the list, but that makes it a perfect fit for a bedroom or dorm room.

Best For Home Theater: VIZIO SmartCast™ P-Series™ 65" Ultra HD TV

Courtesy of Vizio

Vizio’s SmartCast P-Series is its newest line of TVs that harness the power of the XLED Pro technology, which the company claims “delivers mind-blowing images with up to 128 zones of full-array local dimming for a truly epic home entertainment experience.” With impressive contrast ratio and outstanding black uniformity, it’s a great match for a dark room or home theater. Its high SDR peak brightness and ability to deal with reflection mean that it also views well in bright rooms. Our only gripe is that the picture quality degrades when viewed from an angle, and its input lag is a bit high with HDR content.

With access to Vizio’s SmartCast platform, you’ll get all your favorite apps via your smartphone. We also love that it has a Chromecast built directly in, which frees up one of the HDMI ports. The TV comes in 75-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch form factors, so there’s a good fit for all home theaters.

Best Value: VIZIO SmartCast™ M-Series™ 50" Class Ultra HD TV

One step down from Vizio’s premium P-Series is the M-Series, which strikes a perfect balance of picture quality and affordability. For those who don’t want to cough up the big bucks for OLED technology, the M-Series enlists XLED Plus technology, which here has a 32-zone full array LED backlight system to provide more even black levels and precise white levels better than most LED edge-lit LCD TVs. This also includes Vizio's Ultra Color Spectrum, which expands the range of displayable colors. For smoother motion, the M50-E1 has a combined 120Hz refresh/motion processing rate.

However, this set lacks a built-in tuner, which means you can’t connect an antenna directly to the TV for reception of over-the-air TV broadcasts. Rather, you’d need to buy an external tuner or cable box. That shouldn’t bother you too much, though, consider the M50-E1’s compatibility with Google Home devices. This lets you access some of the TV's operational and streaming features using Google Assistant voice control through a Google Home, Mini or Max.

Best Picture Quality: VIZIO E-Series™ 50" Class (49.5" Diag.) 4K HDR Smart TV

Courtesy of Vizio

The 2018 model of Vizio’s E-Series lineup features more depth and detail than older models. But while it uses Vizio’s XLED technology, it only has 16 local dimming zones, in contrast to the P-Series’ 128 or M-Series’ 32 zones mentioned above. Still, the full-array local dimming boosts High Dynamic Range, making it shine in dark settings with stellar shadow detail. And though it has limited peak brightness, its matte display finish copes with reflection well to make it equally enjoyable in brighter rooms. Its 4K Ultra HD enlists the help of 8.3 million screen pixels to produce an incredibly detailed picture and its light uniformity is second to none.

Like other Vizio’s, it capitalizes on the SmartCast entertainment platform and connects to Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The design is sleek and typical of other Vizio models, available in displays ranging from 80 inches down to 43 inches.

Best For Dorm Rooms: VIZIO SmartCast™ D-series 24” Class Full HD Smart TV

Dorm life can be tough, but Vizio’s 24-inch D24f-F1 fits right in. Its edge-lit LED display features two million screen pixels that together deliver 1080p Full HD, and while it’s not as fancy as the P-, M- or E-Series displays, it’s still impressive enough to make your dorm room the go-to for movie night. Speaking of which, through Vizio’s SmartCast platform, you have access to thousands of apps, movies and TV shows, which you can browse and stream using the SmartCast Mobile app on your smartphone. You’ll also enjoy a consistently smooth picture, ideal for gamers, thanks to a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. And you don’t have to be majoring in environmental science to appreciate the fact that this TV is Energy Star-certified, making it more efficient than traditional LCDs.
