Best Overall: Samsung QN55Q8F 55” QLED 4K Smart TV

Samsung QN55Q8FN

If there’s only room for one television in your house, make it Samsung’s QN55Q8F QLED 4K 55-inch smart TV. The premium display instantly draws you in — with HDR (high dynamic resolution) built in, colors pop as they would in the real world. QLED technology enables a variety of features like Q Color and Q Contrast Elite for the most lifelike colors and deeper blacks. The Q Engine processor works overtime to keep the combined display technology running smoothly so the picture never falters.

While the picture on this TV is outstanding, it’s the extras that really make it this model our best overall pick. Gone are the days of cords hanging on the wall — this TV has a super clean design that runs the cables and cords through the TV base for a completely minimalist look. Its bezel-free design keeps the focus on the picture and not on large black borders that were visible on TVs years ago. And Samsung’s Smart TV system is also a winner. You can access your favorite streaming apps right from the TV, control it with your voice, and even use the TV as a smart home hub.

Best Budget: Samsung UN32N5300AFXZA 32" 1080p Smart LED TV

In the world of Samsung televisions, you don’t have to spend a lot to get a lot. That’s exactly the case with the Samsung UN32N5300AFXZ 32-inch 1080p smart LED TV. What it lacks in 4K technology, it makes up for in overall value. The incorporation of Ultra Clean View tech ensures that your favorite shows are displayed without unnecessary distortion for the clearest possible image. With 4K programming still mostly limited to streaming services, regular television programming remains at 1080p. That allows for thousands of movies and shows to be viewed on the N5300 at their very best quality. If you’re an action fan, Motion Rate 60 is onboard to give the refresh rate a boost and prevent motion blur.

A similar performance boost can be attributed to Samsung’s quad-core processor, which allows you to quickly and seamlessly switch between smart apps and other media. That’s a good thing because of the N5300’s excellent smart TV capabilities. Utilizing the downloadable SmartThings app, the 5300 can control all of your smart devices as well as the television’s content selection. Switch from Netflix to Hulu right from your smartphone.

Best QLED: Samsung QN55Q7FN FLAT 55” QLED 4K UHD 7 Series Smart TV

With a gorgeous display and smart TV features, Samsung’s QN55Q7FN 55” 4K 7 series TV is hard to beat. QLED (Quantum dot LED) is a best-in-class screen experience with vibrant colors that are second-to-none. Add in deeper blacks and an anti-reflective screen and it's easy to see the appeal of this unit. HDR elite adds yet another layer of vibrant colors for stunningly lifelike images.

Supporting this amazing display is a stylish piece of bezel-free hardware that mounts flush to the wall. The whole TV is designed with a decidedly "uncluttered" aesthetic — instead of plugging a bunch of devices into the back of the TV and letting the cords hang everywhere, you plug everything into the One Connect Box instead (it can accommodate all kinds of external components like Google Cast and video game consoles). If you aren’t already sold on the TV, the terrific smart TV functions will seal the deal. You can search for content through voice commands or utilize the universal guide to discover content from all your streaming services on a single menu.

Best Design: Samsung UN55LS03NAFXZA 55” The Frame

If you’re looking for a television that has Samsung’s signature picture quality without looking like every other television, Samsung’s 55-inch 4K “The Frame” is it. The unique design centers around what Samsung calls “art mode” which transforms the hardware into a work of art when not in use. A built-in motion sensor changes the display to uploaded photos or purchased backgrounds. You can subscribe to Samsung’s growing art store and choose from additional artists. For an extra sharp look, you can select one of four different border colors to match your room’s decor.

And The Frame's performance is as good as its looks. With a 4K display, you’ll find Samsung’s trademark quality with vibrant colors. High dynamic range ensures deeper blacks and whiter whites for a more lifelike image. The TV has an impressive smart menu as well. Everything from the universal guide for content discovery to voice commands with Bixby all increase The Frame’s value. And everything, including art mode, can be controlled from your smartphone.

Best Small TV: Samsung UN40NU7100FXZA 40” 4K UHD 7 Series Smart LED TV

On the hunt for an inexpensive but solid television that fits neatly in a small room? Samsung’s 40-inch NU7100 Series 7 UHD smart LED TV is the best you’ll find. HDR10+ helps differentiate this model from the rest of the smaller television pack with an incredibly vibrant picture. Specifically, the addition of PurColor increases the color selection to millions of different shades, all fine-tuned to create a lifelike image. Sports fans and action movie lovers will appreciate fast motion technology that eliminates blurring and makes sure you don’t miss that critical touchdown.

It's also easy to find your favorite shows and discover content using the universal guide. Combine all of your streaming favorites like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Now into one easy-to-use guide. It's a breeze to navigate the smart TV menu using the simplified remote control. Samsung smartphone owners can even connect their smartphones to the television to mirror content from their device's screen.

Best Curved: Samsung UN65NU8500 Curved 65" 4K UHD 8 Series Smart LED TV

Curved TVs are something of a niche product — on the one hand, they can provide incredible immersion. On the other hand, the limited viewing angles can make them a less-than-ideal choice for the average family room. But if you’re in the market for a curved screen, the Samsung UN65NU8500 Curved 65" 4K UHD 8 Series Smart LED TV is the cream of the crop in Samsung’s curved TV lineup. And, as is the appeal with these kinds of screens, this TV provides an amazing picture that will take you inside whatever you are watching.

This set offers 4K HD viewing with a 240Hz refresh rate and HDR Plus, so you can watch all the best 4K content on Netflix, YouTube, iTunes and more in unbelievable detail. For smart features, the UN65NU8500 offers all the top streaming media apps and Bixby Voice assistant built in, so you can search for content by talking into your remote. This model is on the pricier side, but this set has been praised for its picture quality and easy set-up.

Best Splurge: Samsung QN65Q9FN 65” QLED 4K UHD Series 9 Smart TV

Samsung’s 65 inch Q9FN series 9 smart TV is their flagship model — and for all the right reasons. For the price, you’re getting their most impressive 4K picture. With HDR and HDR10+ compatibility, this TV offers some of the best features in this price range. Throw in a full-array local dimming LED backlight and it’s easy to see why this television is so popular. To make an already great picture even better, Samsung adds their quantum dot tech for enhanced HDR colors. To be clear, the color saturation on this screen is so good, going back to any other TV will just feel wrong.

To remove unnecessary distractions that plague so many other TV models, Samsung minimizes wires and makes it mount flush to the wall. It also has an "ambient mode" for when it's not in use and Bixby voice command functionality.

Our Process

Our writers spent 20 hours researching and testing the most popular Samsung TVs on the market. All of this research adds up to recommendations you can trust.

What to Look for in a Samsung TV

Display resolution - TVs come in all kinds of resolutions these days, but as the resolution increases so does the price. If you’re buying a smaller television set, then 720p is fine, while 1080p will work for larger sets. You really only need to be looking at a 4K display if you’re buying a TV that’s larger than 55 inches. Otherwise, 1080p should work just fine for you.

Curved TV - Samsung makes a line of curved televisions, and while these are sort of a niche product, they’re actually surprisingly popular. The downside of a curved TV is that it limits viewing angles—you’re not going to want to mount one of these above the fireplace. But if you want an incredibly immersive experience across a smaller viewing area, then you may want to look into one.

Smart TV features - If you’re going to be using an Apple TV, Roku, or another smart TV add-on with your Samsung display, then built-in smart TV features don’t really matter. But if you’re relying on your display to stream Netflix, Hulu, and the other services you subscribe to, make sure the set has smart TV features—and access to the ones you use the most.
