 Google

What We Like

  • This dinosaur video game is completely free.

  • Very easy to play for inexperienced gamers.

What We Don't Like

  • This is a very simple dinosaur video game so it will only keep players occupied for a short period of time.

  • The touch controls aren't as responsive as the keyboard option.

Unknown to most people, Google's Chrome internet browser actually has a built-in dinosaur video game that activates whenever the device it's running on loses its internet connection. To get the game to appear, turn off your computer or smart device's internet, or switch on airplane mode, and then open up Google Chrome. You should now see a cute black and white T-Rex within the browser.

To begin the game, press the space bar on your keyboard or tap on the screen if using the Chrome app on a smartphone or tablet. The T-Rex will begin running and obstacles will appear which can be jumped by tapping the space bar or screen once again. It's a fast, free dinosaur video game that anyone can play at any time.

What We Like

  • Four films worth of storylines in one game is fantastic value.

  • Retelling the Jurassic Park movies means there are very few surprises.

  • Older gamers will find the gameplay repetitive after a while.

Cutest Offline Dinosaur Series: Nintendo's Yoshi Video Games

Yoshi's Woolly World video game on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.

 Nintendo

What We Like

  • All Yoshi video games are very family-friendly.

  • Fantastic level designs and solid gameplay mechanics.

What We Don't Like

  • Older players will finish most Yoshi games within a day or two.

  • The cute art style may not appeal to everyone.

Yoshi may have begun his career as the little green dinosaur supporting character in the Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Kart video game series but he's since starred in several of his own titles that have garnered much acclaim.

Nintendo's Yoshi video games generally target a younger age demographic than the main Mario games with cuter graphics, easier levels, and Yoshi's trademark floating ability which lets him glide over obstacles and baddies.

Yoshi's Woolly World is one of the better Yoshi video games that's been released and can be found on the Nintendo Wii U system. This title has also been re-released on the Nintendo 3DS handheld as Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World and is even easier than the Wii U version. A completely new Yoshi game, Yoshi's Crafted World, is set for release on the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Best Offline Action Video Game: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

Turok Dinosaur Hunter video game on Xbox One.

Nightdive Studios

What We Like

  • Iconic dinosaur video games playable on a modern console.

  • This re-release looks and plays better than the originals.

What We Don't Like

  • Despite its remastering, Turok still looks dated compared to modern video games.

  • The level of violence rules out younger dinosaur gamers.

When Turok: Dinosaur Hunter launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1997, it quickly became one of the most-popular titles on the console due to its ground-breaking graphics and innovative combination of first-person shooter and platformer play styles. This iconic dinosaur video game has since been re-released on Windows and Mac computers, in addition to Xbox One consoles, with an improved graphics engine that allows it to play as smoothly as originally intended.

In Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and its sequel, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, which has also been re-released, the player takes on the role of a mighty warrior who must defeat a villain who has caused time to collapse. Popular dinosaurs such as velociraptors, T-Rexes, and triceratops are all present with many of them featuring futuristic cybernetic weapon enhancements to provide more of a challenge for the hero. Looking for a video game series that features dinosaurs with lazers? Turok is for you.
