The Best iPad Trivia Games

Top Trivia Games for the iPad

Which scientist theorized that planets revolve around the Sun?  Which Angelina Jolie film portrayed her as a video game archaeologist?  If you suffer from Justin Beiber fever, what disorder do you have: Bieber Thermosis or Bieber Pyrexia?

If you eat questions like this for breakfast, you are probably a trivia game nut.  And if you have an iPad, you are in luck.  There are plenty of great iPad trivia games available on the app store.

If all you want to do is answer difficult trivia questions and test your mettle against an opponent, it is easy to go with QuizUp.  It has a very casual quick to get into and quick to play style with a lot of categories to test your trivia knowledge.   The game is simple enough.  You'll be automatically matched up against an opponent to answer a half dozen questions.  The faster you answer, the more points you get, with the final round being a bonus 2x round.   It's fast, it's fun and the trivia is challenging enough to make you want to come back for more.  It's a free-to-play game without an annoying monetization scheme, which is also a big bonus.

You Don't Know Jack

You Don't Know Jack

Did you know the idea for You Don't Know Jack was crystallized when the creators realized they could ask a single question about both Shakespeare and Scooby Doo?  This game show-style trivia game combines your standard garden-variety trivia questions with a witty sense of humor and a heavy dose of pop culture, which makes it easy to put at the top of any list of trivia games on the iPad.

Movie Challenge

Movie Challenge Trivia Game

Among the best movie trivia games on the iPad, Movie Challenge will challenge you with mini-games like a hangman-style game where you guess the answer after picking out letters or puzzles where you put a list of animated features in order from least to most grossing films.   With a nice pace and plenty of cool powerups -- including the ability to get help from your peers on the iPad -- Movie Challenge is a great addition for any movie buff.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Friends

Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

The popular game show has undergone some changes since most of us have seen it, so don't be surprised when you launch this game to find your first question to be worth $25,000 and your next question to only be worth $500. Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Friends allows you to play the popular game show with friends or simply random people from around the world. If you are (or were) a fan of the show, you'll probably be a fan of the app.

Movie Cat! HD

The trivia game is absolutely fan-cat-stic. If you have ever seen the 30-second bunnies skits on Starz where a movie is acted out by a host of cartoon bunnies, you'll be familiar with the concept. In MovieCat!, you'll be answering trivia questions about movies, only when it is time to name a scene, you'll be seeing a cartoon version of the feline variety. This one is great for both movie buffs and cat lovers!

Love movies but not a big fan of cats? Perhaps Doodle Movie Challenge is more your speed.

Music Challenge

Music Challenge Trivia

It's easy to say Redwind Software hit back-to-back home runs with Movie Challenge and Music Challenge. Using the same basic formula, Redwind created a unique and challenging music trivia game with its own unique twist: your music.  Music Challenge can scan your playlists and include your songs as one of the categories, challenging you to name the artist or match album art with the album's name.   Definitely a nice change of pace from the standard music trivia game.

Perhaps the most recognizable name in trivia, the only reason Jeopardy isn't mentioned near the top of the list is it's rather steep asking price of $6.99.  While this may rank it as one of the most expensive trivia games available for the iPad, it is still one of the most visible brands in trivia.  And for those who tune in daily to match wits with the contestants, Jeopardy for iPad is a solid investment.   The game also offers expansion packs with additional questions for $.99 each.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader

This trivia game has the potential to be one of the best on the iPad, but it's very annoying monetization drags Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader down.  It uses one of those timed gameplay methods where you'll either need to stop playing after a while to build up coins or pay money to continue and while the game is good, it's not so good that you should constantly spend money to play it.  Unfortunately, even the premium version can keep you from playing if you don't pay stars, which is why this game is listed last.  If you are a hardcore fan, maybe it's worth, otherwise, I'd suggest checking out QuizUp.
