Facebook is easily the king of all social media sites. According to Business of Apps, 85% of smartphone users use the Facebook app, and of all Facebook users over half of them access it with a mobile device. So, it makes sense that any Facebook related app would be popular.

There are different Facebook apps available for different purposes. Some are focused on messaging friends. Others are Facebook app alternatives. Some are focused on local events, or managing Facebook ads.

These are the the 10 best Facebook apps for Android users (not all are available for iOS, but we included iOS links in case you need them).

Friendly

What We Like

  • It's Free
  • Familiar interface for Facebook users
  • Integrated filter to highlight or hide posts by keyword
  • Easily switch between multiple Facebook accounts
  • Quick links to your other social accounts

What We Don't Like

  •  Advanced features like ad-blocking only available via the paid version

Friendly is just as functional as the Facebook app, but with a highly intuitive user interface. It includes an integrated messenger app, new posts ordered by most recent, and the developers even promise the app will cut down on data and battery consumption.

The main feed provides a familiar look for anyone switching over from the branded Facebook app. On every post you'll see the same Like, Comment, and Share icons you're used to.

Commenting includes emoticons and the ability to embed images or videos from your phone or camera. The integrated messenger app is easier to use than the Facebook Messenger, without the annoyance of accidental emoticons on long presses.

In many ways, Friendly is far better than the branded Facebook app you may be used to.

Facebook Lite

Screenshot of the Facebook Lite app

What We Like:

  • Fast launch
  • Quick to reply and comment
  • Low footprint saves space on the phone
  • Intuitive UI laid out like regular Facebook app

What We Don't Like:

  • Slow to load posts
  • Appearance feels dated
  • Messenger is not integrated (it's installed as a second app)

If you don't have an unlimited data plan, checking Facebook many times a day with the standard Facebook app can really add up.

Facebook offers a lite version of its app called Facebook Lite. This app has nearly all of the same features as the regular app, but with a scaled down user interface.

How did Facebook scale down the UI? The app uses icons without color, uses smaller fonts, and has a smaller footprint (application size). Facebook promises that its app can function well even on a slow 2G network.

Just because Facebook Lite saves space doesn't mean it falls short. You'll find nearly all the features you're used to in the regular Facebook app, including emoji, sharing photos and video, post notifications, and the Facebook Marketplace.

With space-saving comes some quirks, and posts in notifications are slow to load. However, if you're low on space, the app is a good solution if you prefer sticking with a Facebook branded app.

Desygner

What We Like:

  • Beautiful templates to start your designs
  • Templates sized well for each social network
  • Quickly share links to post new designs
  • Easy to search for designs

What We Don't Like:

  • Majority of templates are not free
  • Free editor is limited to text, images, and basic stickers and shapes

Desygner is a free web app available for making creative designs that can be used for banners, business cards, posters, and more. The web app includes thousands of free templates, so you don't have to start the design process from scratch.

The Desygner mobile app lets you do the same thing right from your phone. Use pre-made templates to design original social media posts, not only for Facebook but for Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and more.

For Facebook, you can choose from design templates sized specifically for a Facebook post. You can also use the app to design profile header images or Facebook ads.

While the Desygner app is overloaded with too many premium templates, there are enough free templates to make the app worthwhile.

If you ever struggle trying to come up with well-designed posts that'll attract more likes, the Desygner app is a good place to start.

Puffin FB

What We Like:

  • High quality user interface
  • Efficient app loads and runs fast
  • Low data usage

What We Don't Like:

  • Messenger icon opens Facebook Messenger
  • Notifications don't differentiate between posts and likes

Puffin is a popular web browser for Windows and mobile created by a company called CloudMosa. Puffin also offers various mobile apps, one of which is Puffin for Facebook.

This is a Facebook app alternative that looks the most like the branded Facebook app. The Facebook news feed is almost identical to the default Facebook app. However, Puffin claims that its "wicked fast cloud rendering" makes it a more responsive solution.

The app also utilizes data compression to use about 80-90% less data than similar apps. This is accomplished by displaying images and video in lower quality. On a mobile device, this is hardly noticeable.

If you're looking for an alternative to the default Facebook app, Puffin for Facebook is the highest quality alternative with the lowest learning curve.

Buffer

What We Like

  • Ease of use
  • Full video and image functionality
  • Simple user interface

What We Don't Like

  • Facebook posts only work for Groups and Pages
  • The social account limit seems very low

Buffer has been a leading post scheduling app for social media for many years.

The value of Buffer is that instead of logging into Twitter or Facebook once a day and spamming all of your followers all at once, you can schedule your posts so they're spread out over time.

The free version is limited to only three social accounts, and 10 scheduled posts for each of those.

If you don't use many social accounts, Buffer is a clear choice. It integrates with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Google+.

TimerInFB

What We Like:

  • Well designed charts
  • Real-time chart updates
  • Effective at curbing Facebook addiction

What We Don't Like:

  • A typo in the settings area
  • Lack of advanced features
  • Limited only to Facebook

This app, accessible only as an Android APK download from the Aptoide Android App Store, is perfect if you feel like you're spending far too much time on Facebook every day.

TimerInFB logs your time spent on Facebook, and provides you with visual charts that break down that time by day, week, month, and even year. You can also configure limits, where the app will warn you if you're passed a maximum limit in minutes.

You can even have the app completely shut off your access to Facebook or Facebook messenger if you hit a secondary limit after the warning.

If you feel like you have an issue with Facebook addiction, this is a very small but effective app to help curb the problem.

What We Like:

  • Frequently updated with new events
  • View discussions from local Facebook users
  • Easy to star (save) events that interest you

What We Don't Like:

  • Not integrated directly into the Facebook app

Another app provided by Facebook itself, the Facebook Local app transforms Facebook into a community platform.

Facebook Local is an amazing collection of content from all across Facebook that's been tagged with the towns around your own location, or organizations and businesses located near you. This is a dream come true for a socialite, or anyone who has difficulty learning what events and activities are going on around town.

The app lets you filter by posts tagged by types of business, types of events, specific friends, and more.

You'll never feel like you're missing out on local activities again once you install the Facebook Local app.

Phoenix Facebook is an alternative to the branded Facebook app.

It offers all of the same functionality you'd expect, with a unique style and a simple user interface.

Phoenix Facebook feels somewhat less cluttered and busy than the default Facebook app. There's also a useful Pages feed that lets you view only posts from the pages and groups on Facebook that you follow.

Phoenix Facebook is a perfect alternative for anyone who might be tired of the stock colors and styles of the default Facebook app.

While most other video downloader apps for Facebook are overrun with far too many ads, the ads present in this app are bearable, considering the app is free.

The app provides two ways to download videos from Facebook. The first is to paste the link directly into the field on the main page. The second is to click on the Facebook tab and browse your news stream to find videos.

Once you download videos, they'll show up under the Video tab. From there you can play, rename, move, share, or delete.

What We Like:

  • Easy four-step ad creation process
  • Ad performance includes useful charts and stats
  • Mobile notifications for active ad campaigns

What We Don't Like:

The Facebook Ads Manager app is offered directly by Facebook. It's intended to simplify the ad creation process.

The app lets you create and manage new ad campaigns, or monitor and learn from the success or failure of past ad campaigns. The app conveniently lets you choose from any of the groups or pages you currently administrate.

The app lets you manage all aspects of Facebook advertising, including boosting posts, driving site traffic, or promoting pages or events.

If you're responsible for creating and managing Facebook apps for an organization, this app will let you do your job from anywhere.
