Our Top Picks

Best Overall, Series 4: IQ Shield Screen Protector

If you want a virtually invisible screen protector that won't distract from the beautiful design of your new Apple Watch, this option from IQ Shield provides all the right protection while more or less vanishing into your device's screen.

Made for the Series 4 Apple Watch, this screen protector uses a "wet install" method with a special liquid solution that creates a closer adhesion and greater touchscreen responsiveness through the protector. It's made from thermoplastic polyurethane and IQ's LIQuidSkin technology, which is super durable, non-yellowing, and so transparent you won't even know its there. The film conforms to the curves of the Apple Watch's screen and adheres without any bubbles. It will protect your screen from scratches and if you want to take it off, it won't leave any residue behind. (The package comes with six protective films so you have lots of replacements.)

This film is for the 40mm Series 4, but IQ makes the same product for the 44mm model as well.

Runner-Up, Best Overall for Series 4: ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Screen Protector

Protect your Apple Watch screen — and your wallet — with the ArmorSuit MilitaryShield, which brings the same protective film material used in military vehicles and space shuttles to your wrist. Built to withstand scratches and drops, it has UV protection for ultra HD clarity and to prevent yellowing, so your screen colors look vivid and bright. The edge-to-edge screen protector is thin and flexible, fitting comfortably and tightly against your device. The wet installation process is designed to be easy, with plenty of room to correct if it isn't perfect the first time. However, be aware that the screen protector may not fit your watch depending on what type of case you have.

Available in a two-pack, the screen has been created to be tough and durable, including self-healing technology to erase minor damage, as well as a MilitaryShield film on top that reduces the appearance of fingerprints. The device includes corrosion and moisture protection.

Best Overall, Series 1/2/3: IQShield LiQuidSkin Screen Protector

Due to their low price, many sellers of Apple Watch screen protectors don't offer much in the way of customer service or warranty support. If you have a problem, you're largely on your own.

That's not the case with IQShield protectors, however. Every model they sell is backed by a lifetime replacement warranty, as well as a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.

The IQShield version comes in a six-pack, so you've got several opportunities to get installation right or replace scratched and damaged versions.

The transparent protectors have self-healing properties, meaning that minor scratches will disappear by themselves over time. As with other models using a similar "wet" installation process, the pack includes a cleaning cloth, a spray that activates the adhesive on the back of the screen protector and a squeegee for removing small air bubbles.

Runner-Up, Best Overall for Series 1/2/3: Smiling Case and Protector

Smiling Apple Watch Case and Protector

Courtesy of Amazon

Just after some simple, cheap protection for a recent model of Apple Watch? This Smiling option fits the bill nicely.

Made from transparent TPU, it's a bumper and screen protector in one, fitting over the front and sides of Apple Watch series 2 and 3 versions. There are cutouts for the band, as well as for accessing the buttons, ports and microphone. With a front thickness of just 0.3mm, it offers a good balance between protecting the screen and reducing its sensitivity to swipes and taps.

The protector can't accidentally pop off, thanks to a nice tight fit and because it's secured to the watch band through those cutouts. The only downside is that water can get trapped between the screen and the protector if you shower or swim with your watch — it's easy to dry off, but requires removing the protector to do so.

Best Case, Series 4: Smiling Clear Case

Many companies make cases for Apple Watches, but surprisingly, many of those cases don't have a cover over the screen. Instead, they rely on the raised case edges to prevent the watch face from hitting hard surfaces.

If you'd like to make sure the front, sides, and screen of your expensive watch are fully protected — without distracting from the design of the Watch — this clear case from Smiling has you covered. It's made from high-quality TPU plastic that's textured so it won't stick to the screen, and there are cutouts for all the buttons and controls so the functionality isn't impaired. (Don't worry — the touchscreen capabilities are also unaffected by the cover.) This case also goes beyond scratch protection to guard against drops and bumps on the Watch edges. Each pack comes with two plastic cases, so you'll have a spare should the first one get damaged.

Another major selling point for this case: it's much easier to install than standalone screen protectors. You don't have to worry about pressing out bubbles or carefully aligning a plastic film. As with most other cases, water can get in between the watch face and the cover, which is something to be aware of if you wear your device in the shower or while swimming. Other than that, there's little to complain about here, especially for the price.

Best Case, Series 2/3: LELONG Screen Protector and Case

If you like the idea of a protective case and cover that's easy to install, but hate water or sweat getting stuck between the screen and the cover, Lelong has the solution.

At a price lower than many competitors selling just one type of case, the company includes two in the pack, one with a cover over the screen for everyday use, and one without. The latter is ideal for use when swimming, running or performing a heavy workout, as it saves having to disassemble and clean the case after exercise to get rid of the moisture.

Swapping between cases only takes a minute, which makes this a simple and effective way to protect your Apple Watch (series two or three, in either size) with minimum fuss, no matter where you're using it.

Best Multipack, Series 2/3: Covery Screen Protector

Even the best screen protectors are meant to be disposable since they're designed to take the scratches and scuffs that would otherwise damage the screen. Most will also start to peel off around the edges after a while, which doesn't really affect the level of protection but isn't a great look on your sleek watch face.

Installation can be a bit tricky as well, especially if you've never put on a screen protector before, and it's rare to get it exactly right the first time. For all those reasons, buying a multipack is a good idea!

In themselves, Covery's screen protectors aren't much different from the competition, but it's the company's attention to detail that sets them apart. As well as six standard protectors that cover the full watch face on all models, the pack includes two others that cover just the flat part of the screen, designed specifically to be used underneath a case.

The installation process is a little complicated, involved cleaning the screen and then wetting it, along with your fingers and the protector, before applying the protector, removing air bubbles and waiting for everything to dry.

Covery makes it as easy as possible, however, with detailed graphical instructions and a video, as well as installation accessories like a microfiber cloth, sponges and squeegee. This, combined with the low cost per protector, make it our multipack pick.

Best Anti-Glare, Series 1/2/3: IQShield Matte Screen Protector

As good as the screen on the Apple Watch is, sunlight and oily fingerprint smudges can sometimes make it difficult to see clearly when you're outdoors. If this is something that bothers you, it's worth checking out the matte version of IQShield's screen protector.

Very similar to the company's standard protectors, the matte version comes in a pack of six and has the same set of accessories to make the wet installation method as straightforward as possible.

Where it differs is in the matte nature of the protector, noticeably reducing sun glare in bright conditions. IQShield has used a satin finish on the surface, which helps eliminate friction and make swipes feel more like they do when using the screen by itself.

With minor scratches healing by themselves and backed by the company's lifetime replacement warranty, these protectors are a sensible option for Apple Watch owners who spend a lot of time in the sun.
